Problem with scope on a Tikka 338 Win. Please help
      #40860 - 07/11/05 01:03 PM

I have a Tikka in 338 win mag. My problem is that when I go to the range after about 20 shots the rings come loose and I lose my zero. I think the problem is that with the recoil the screws are backing out. It happens with both the rings and the mounts. I think that putting some temporary loc-tite on the screws should remedy the problem but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience/had any other suggestions. Thanks.

You MUST loc tite the screws on both rings and mounts
otherwise it will be a continual problem.

HOWEVER, before loc titing, make sure you use a bore sighter/
colominator to get the cross hairs as close to 1" high as possible
BEFORE you loc tie - that way when you do final fine tuning
of the scope at the range you are not winding the cross hairs a long
way.

The other thing you may want to do is get the rings aligned correctly
and maybe even polished out so they are 100% smooth - the quality control
nowadays is not what it used to be.

Anyway, good luck.

bulldog563:
Here's an article on scope mounting the right way, which you might find helpful.

Who makes the Tikka Rifle or where does it come from. I've
heard it talked about.

Sako make it - I believe it is made in the same factory.

Alot of people call it a poor mans Sako.

Even though they are obviously uilt to a price,
they are good value for money.
And at least they still have an adjustable trigger.

They are from Finland. I really like the rifle. It has one of the smoothest actions I have tried...and all for a bargain price. Mine has a wood stock and the wood is very nice for a sub 800 dollar rifle. It is perfect for a plains game/elk/bear rifle. It is very comfortable to shoot and has a palm swell that you will rarely find in a budget rifle. I know its a small detail but shows that it is well thought out.
