Any experience with the African Hunters Guild?
      #40611 - 04/11/05 05:59 PM

Does anyone have any knowledge regarding The African Hunters Guild? I am thinking about joining but wanted some feedback before I give them $660. If anyone is a member, what membership level do you have and have you been satisfied with their service...ie is it worth the cost?

OK, I'll own up to making a mistake. It ain't worth a damn. The only service I can see is they list outfitters in SA thay have checked out. Thats OK if you are starting out and want to hunt in SA. I just call my booking agent for that.

Save your money. If you want more info PM me..........JJ

Welcome to Nitroexpress JJ.

Could you please update your profile, as seeing where people are from can be quite helpful on an international forum such as this.

Welcome on board JJ.

Ozzy

I don't know this guild but I am prone to trust JJ.

I am even reluctant to join the "huntingreport" which is less expensive.
This forum is loaded with advantages, at least providing absolutely what You want to know about whatever concerning hunting anywhere in the world.
With so many friends on NitroExpress forum, no need to waste $$$$$ for dubious data..

good luck

The Hunting Report is actually a pretty good resource. I am a member and the hunt trip report search has proven invaluable. You can easily research outfitters or find a hunt in your chosen area for any available species. I think I agree with you guys on the guild though.

Bulldog,

Have you done a search for Atkinson or Pierre Van Tonder in the Hunting Report? I am curious what the results would be.

Are they PH's or hunters? A Louis Van Tonder comes up as a outfitter or PH with good reports.

500,
Causey's Hunting Report database says it's up to date for reports filed before November 1, 2005. I'm an email extra member, so can search the entire report database.

I did a search for Atkinson at Causey's The Hunting Report and did not get any hits.

Likewise nothing for "Tonder" or "Von Tonder". There was a report for Luis Van Tonder, but guess not the same PH.

Do you know Pierre's outfit's name?

As not everyone that goes to Africa subscribes to Causey's "Hunting Report", chances are that an Agent/Outfitter/PH who has not been around for very long, or haven't done as many hunts as they may like to give the impression of, will not be found in the "Hunting Report" database.

This may be the reason for not finding anything about Atkinson or P. Von Tonder there.

Bulldog

I have no experience with the Guild but I can tell you that the Hunting Report has been very useful in researching new safari operators and new hunts for me. I think any African hunter that is not stuck on one safari company would be well served to subscribe to the Hunting Report and their on-line services.

Mark

P.S. Didn't you have some questions for me?
