Haven't had much time to hunt deer lately, but my brother and I made it out for a day not long ago. He shot a nice buck at 440yds, 7-08 w/120 Vmax...here are a couple photos.

Nice Blacktail. Nice shot also. Where were you?

That buck looks like he has some nice mass. Tell me though, how do you load a buck like that for a back pack carry?

Hi Ann,

He's a good buck, but not in the "great buck" class. We're gonna take a month off and chase 'em around staring this week, so maybe I'll post a few more pics later.

Backpacking a deer is a nice option when the circumstances warrant it. Could be dangerous to walk out like this, in some parts of the world I guess.

Just make a slit just above and behind the back knee on each side, between bone & tendon. Then insert the front legs. I like to push the front feet through far enough that I can wring the front "elbow" with a knife, so the front lower leg flops. That way, it won't pull back through the slit very easily.

Prop the deer up against a rock or tree, wiggle into the straps (legs), and you're off.

Sometimes it can be comical, trying to get to your feet...

Very nice for a Black Tail buck. They grow that big on the Charlotte Islands, but only rarely.
: The second picture looks like one of those Buck-Lure advertisements. Good way to pack here as well. Most so-called "hunters" these days, stick to the roads in vehicles so the bush is a safe place to hunt.
