Two great doubles for sale
      #39661 - 24/10/05 12:28 PM

A friend of mine is selling a couple of DR's on Gunbroker.com. The first is a gorgeous Wessley Richards 577. It looks like a wonderful DR that will surely double in value over the next five years. I would buy it myself if I had the available funds.

The other is a Wilks that is in great condition.

Let me know what you guys think.

I like the WR 577 - very nice indeed and
well under in price what I thought he would have
had on a C Bolt WR Big Bore.

And the Wilkes is a good looking gun as well.

Both would be superb in the bush.

Suggest to your friend he puts up a bit more info
on the guns - weight, bore condition.

Good luck to him.

I agree with 500Nitro. Nice looking rifles but scant on the information.

The 577/650 could be a lot of things.

Have I ever mentioned I am a big fan of Wilkes Rifles?

John Wilks 475 # 2 British Double Rifle

Description for Item # 39060230

"Being offered is a beautiful John Wilks double rifle in the famous British Caliber 475 #2.
This rifle's condition is fantastic in every way and a family history is available regarding
its use in Africa, although we do not have it in hand it has been printed and published
and we are seeking a copy of same from Michael Merker Gun Shop at the time of this writing.
The rifle is beautifully cased. "

Wesley Richards 577
Description for Item # 39075020

"Being offered is probably the most comfortable to carry and shoot Wessley Richards 577 Nitro Express
that I have personally encountered. This is a light weight gun most likely used in India against Tigers,
Elephants and buffalo, as well as its time in Africa. It is beautifully cased with it's turn screws,
cleaning rod and other accessories.the bullet weight is 650 grains as opposed to the 750 grain
due to it's light weight design. A delight to carry as opposed to others considered in its class. "

I forgot to add that Wilkes is (was) a great make / name
to have on a gun.

Mickey - from the ones I've seen I also like them

577 / 650gn is a perfectly normal 577.
IMHO, if the bullet is in the right place the diff btn
a 650 and 750gn is not that large.

Hell, after seeing the diff a 570gn 500 Nitro has over
a 470, just the step up to 577 should be enough.

The seller is a great guy. If anyone seriously interested in either I suggest you email him for details. An Interesting note on the WR. The gold inlaid 577 on the trigger guard was so the PH could tell quickly which gun he was goin to grab off the rack. The 577 was used for wounded tigers and the like. He told me that this DR was reportedly responsible for 8 or 9 Tigers. Really a beautiful DR with lots of history!
