Anyone live near Winston Salem NC?

We are moving down to NC in May. Can't seem to find a range that will allow old black powder doubles .50 caliber and greater. Looking for a place to shoot my larger BPE doubles.

Mike, just Googling rifle ranges, there seem like several in the WS area.

If you ever get to N Georgia, I will take you to River Bend Gun Club.

FYI: There is a potential elk hunt in NC: https://www.rmef.org/media/north-carolina-bill-would-establish-first-ever-managed-elk-hunt/

Most of the ones that I googled have $60 an hour fees, don't allow .50 caliber or larger or haven't answered my inquiries in over a week.

As I mentioned in another post, I am a couple hours north of Winston Salem.

As for a range to shoot, there is a nice U.S. National Forest range near Christiansburg, VA, also a couple hours north.

Directions - Winston Salem to Christiansburg shooting range

The USFS ranges are open to the public, no membership required, and free of charge. You can shoot your .50 and above there.

There are VERY few non-regulated ranges here, but lots of gravel pits that aren't gate controlled.

Finding an abandoned quarry for shooting without nearby neighbors would be great, at least provided safe shooters are using it.

Georgia has a number of state shooting ranges run by DNR, and perhaps NC does also.

When I live on the East coast there were lots of Izaak Walton League clubs.

Try Google Izaak Walton League NC and see what comes up.

Also google Gun Clubs NC, NRA Gun Clubs NC, black powder gun clubs NC.

Private clubs is probably your best choice. Commercial ranges and Public shooting facility's can be limiting.

Where in NC are you moving?
