Right about the p14. I didn't even look at the first rifle, seeing it was the larger bent bolt and obviouslt the P14. I saw what now looks like a Ruger action with the bent bolt and erroneously (too many beer?) thought it was the P14. LOL
I stand corrected yet again.

My Mauser 404 on a standard Oberndorf Sporter M98 action opened up from the original .423 Mauser cartridge. Kynoch and Parker Hale ammo came with the rifle, the 60's era Berdan primed Kynoch with an uprated MV of 2225fps for their 400gr SP bullet and Parker Hale loaded by Norma with a 400gr Solid to 2245fps (87.0grs N204 powder).

The EER Leupold scope replaced a Single Point red dot sight I had fitted after wanting something better than the open sights I used on Buffalo.

Thanks for the comments guys.
It's been with me for 48 years now brought into the country along with a couple of 375H&H rifles by a mercenary returning from the Rhodesian bush war. In his words, he never got the time to use the 404 on 4 legged creatures as he was too busy dealing with the 2 legged variety.
As you can see it still has the full charger hump so the tail of the extractor is not exposed as in some conversions where the charger is ground away to accommodate the longer 404 cartridge. The face of the receiver ring has also not been altered i.e. not scalloped to accommodate the longer cartridge bullet nose when loading or ejecting cartridges which it does perfectly everytime.
The scope, mounted as it is, makes charging the three round magazine easy with a fourth round able to be controlled fed from the top of the magazine into the chamber.

Overall it is a light and slick operating rifle, one I would have full confidence with in any dangerous game situation.

Says it all - plain & simple!
Very nice piece of kit Eagle27, love it.

My 404 has a QD red dot from AHR - unfortunately they don't show it on their page anymore, works a treat fitting on the front ring

Eagle that is one great looking and used rifle and a very good history. Bit envious.

Just one point your mate was not a Mercenary if he fought with the Rhodesian Army. If a person joins a countries military they are part of the military not a Mercenary. The Aust fed Police tried to arrest a mate on his return from Rhodesia. It is illegal for an Australian to be a mercenary. He just told them he had been in the Rhodesian Army so not a merc and walked.

Its a beautiful rifle Eagle. Mauser knew how to put together a beautiful rifle. It is interesting how some adaptations were done. The Jeffery in the earlier photos is serial number 16708 and mine is 16706 and they look to have been done a bit differently. Mine has a pretty large scallop at the receiver end and the charger opened and shaped but not removed like the earlier photos.
