A 318 Westley Richards walk
      #393342 - 09/09/25 07:29 PM

Got out for sunset walk with the 318 Westley Richards this afternoon.

Conditions were very pleasant, a light westerly, that favoured my route.

Hit the tin whistle at a few spots in hopes of getting a fox in - no joy.

Very few rabbits on the property, but just as I was preparing to move on from a whislting spot, I spotted 3 running between tussocks, lined up on the gap where I hoped they would appear next and dropped the biggest one as they came through.

On the return walk, with light fading, I spotted a fox curled up tight on the edge of a large tussock - not sure if he was trying to make himself small just in case I was a threat, or if he was literally caught napping.

Either way, he copped 250 grains of Bertram's finest.

Probably a less than meaningful impact on the local feral pest population - but a good afternoon out with a classic cartidge from yesteryear.

Nice work!

Versatile cartridge. Should pull the finger out and get on with finishing up my own build.
Currently just a barreled action and a set of dies!

Hope it eventually looks as good as that one

Thanks - it came out OK in the end.

The Swan barrel has proved to be very accurate.

It's a lot of fun to shoot.

Need to get it out on some pigs.

Good walk. Great looking rifle, a working rifle, if somewhat of an over kill. All the same, good stuff.

I'll have try foxes and rabbits with some of my medium bores and larger medium, smaller big bores. That use never entered my mind.

I only have my own two land blocks now neighbours selling land, I've lost the once 14 km2 I used to have. New owners greedily denying access.

Some of the guys I let on my block, e.g. a cousin, saysmyblock is the only one he has now as well. Younger owners want the world but share nothing. I need to acquire new lands for access

On my home block foxes generally only out and about in the deep dark.
