300 wby mag
      #39314 - 20/10/05 03:36 AM

All,

I just bought a Remington 700 Alaskan Wilderness Rifle in .300 wby mag.

I am planning on using the rifle on a range of game from Elk to large bear.

Currently, I plan on shooting 200 grain Nosler Partitions.

Does anyone have any experience with this laod or suggestions for another?

Thanks

bbb,

They don't shoot for sour owl shit in my German Weatherby but shoot like gangbusters in my old Remington 721 in 300 H&H. I think the bullet is as good as it gets for general hunting and have shot some plains game with it with excellent results.

Glad you are looking at the 200 grain bullets for the Wby Mag. That's where these 30 cal magnums should be run, in my opinion.

One bullet you might want to check out is the North Fork 200 grain. Used those in my 300 H&H around 3,000 fps on game the size of elk in Africa (kudu, sable, nyala and waterbuck) and they worked incredibly well. Mike Brady is fantastic to work with also.

BBB,

I would recommend the Barne's TSX, 200gr......I've switched over completely, all my hunting calibers.

bbb

180 gr Speer FB Hot-Core shoot well, and so do the 180 GS. I can't get anything bigger than the 180's to shoot in this particular gun, and I bought it new many years ago...lots of combinations tried in all that time. I gave up on it and just use the Remmy 721 in 300 H&H now for my 30 cal magnum.

I went bear hunting the second time I used 220gr Serria bullets in my 300 Win Mag.I guess the Noslers are as good as it gets for bear.

I am a big fan of all the 30's. This past June, I shot a 7'4" black bear with a Tikka T3 light in 300wsm with 200gr sierra game kings. I have taken many other animals with Various 300s.

My goal for the weatherby is to carry a heavy bullet a long way. I am heading to Kansas next month and I want a heavy bullet to buck the wind over those long corn fields.

Thansk for your help.

I have used the .300 WBY heavily. I use the 165 grs Hornady bullet for deer. But it comes into it own with 200 grs bullets. For years I had a stockpile of Remington safaris loaded with 200 grs Swift A frames. Now that my cache has been depleated I use a hanload that duplicates the same ballistics as the Remington load. But I have had great success to with 180 grs TBBC from Federal.

I have the 300 RUM and was wondering about those speer 200gr
Hot Core bullets how are they? Any good at all? They are cheap enought.

I E-Mailed Speer about their 200 gr Hot Core bullets and asked them about if their 200 gr bullets would hold up at velocitys like 3000 fps and they said that it would hold up at 3100 fps and it would not come apart while entering game at those velocitys. I know that I can get them cheap too!

I have a Jarrett chambered to .300WBY and I use 7828 with the 200gr Nosler Partition. Velocity is around 3000fps.
