The restoration of Purdey gun case
      #393041 - 21/08/25 02:10 AM

I just got ready my latest work. It contains total renovation of my clients old Purdey gun case, both inner and outer sides. Only carrying handle, all fittings, box frames, room dividers and makers label are original. Leather and wool baize are new assembled and makers label cleaned and repaired. This very dark area on lid exists when I oiled learher surfaces. I have tested every means and gimmicks but it seems that it will stay. Probably some kind of error with tanning process.

The shotgun is 16 cal Purdey with interesting grip safety and nice brown damascus barrels. Here is some photos of case and shotgun:

Yes, as I soon mentioned in text. My client has an another similar gun too and I´m just making a motor case for it.

Igorrock,

That is very nice work. Thanks for posting.

I have a question, well, probably a simple question that many people know the answer. What is the diference between a gun case and a motor case for a gun? I have seen several gun cases described as motor cases and thought that perhaps they were the same.

Gun case is a common name for all cases whose are made for carrying weapons. The case which I just repaired is called as a presentation case. Motor case is more like a box which narrow upper side opens like a lid. Like in this photo below:

Excellent work.

I think the terms are interchangeable. Motor case is just the older traditional term.
