Got a Westley Martini Henry today. Can someone tell me what the screws and pins in the photos are for? All that I can see that they do is hold the front of the trigger group in the receiver. Seems to be overly engineered just to keep the TG in place.

That is used to hold in the whole feed ramp, trigger guard and springs. Others will give you better advice. No need to take it apart unless you really need to...

HB is corrects hold the trigger group on place. The screw on the left side is often missing from these guns.

The cross pin screw should be screwed in far enough that it protrudes on the left side. The screw on the left side then rotates into the notch on the end of the cross screw, locking it in place.

I have three of these style gun, I am missing two of the lock screws. Any have a spare screw or two for me?

But tell us more about this gun. 20000 of Francotte mad action style were made for the ZAR, (and so marked) 2000 of which were carbines. I have both rifle and carbine. The third gun I have is a Francotte short rifle.

My rifle is marked on the Stock as belonging to the Port Elizabeth Town Guard. In 2002 I shoot a Kuda in the hills over looking a reservoir that is the Port Elizabeth water supply with my rifle. During the 2nd Boer War, the Port Elizabeth town guard, guarded the dam there. I have wonder since if my rifle had been there.

I sure would like to see more details of your rifle. Full length and markings of course.

On my small MH actions, the screw allows the trigger to be removed for cleaning and, with the top split pin removed, the block also can be removed.

Very nice piece Casper!
What calibre is your MH?
DD is the Guru when it comes to these wonderful rifles, I'm with him - we need a few more photos!

Don Heath telephoned me a year or more before he died. Hecwas looking for who I thought would be a good outlet or seller of these guns. , I forget the year or how long ago. A cache or horde of very good, even new in grease, old guns found in a warehouse in Zimbabwe. Muzzle loaders, I believe also Martini Henry's. Some pistols. I belueve they might be dribbled out onto the market rather than a large sale, I certainly wanted to see if I could personally make acquisitions. I never heard any thing more about this horde allegedly hundreds of long arms, new in grease. Anyone else ever heard of the horde? Or suspect they saw a seeming supply for sale enter the market?

I suspect Don did not control the horde, but like often the case with Southern Africans, looking to try to make a buck somehow himself. Nothing wrong with some entrepreneurship attitudes.

Sorry to take this off topic. The "20,000 made for ZAR" sparked a thought.

It's a WR Special .303. Rifling is shot out. I haven't tried it yet but I slugged the bore and it went through with no land marks on the slug.

Do a resleeve job Casper?
Perhaps Bouldersmith might be able to suggest more options if the barrel is completely shagged!
