I have one of these Ruger No.1 in 450/400 3" NE. I bought mine 3 or 4 years ago and it one of my favorites.

In the US brass is tough to come buy, loaded ammo is around. I don't know about in AU.

I have taken Whitetail deer and feral hogs with it. I am taking it next month to Canada for a black bear.

$2950 AUD is about $1925 USD which is about average for this gun in this chambering here.

Given what you fellows hunt in AU it seems to me this might be a good gun to use.

If you do buy, make sure you ask the seller for the unfired ammo and brass.

DD - looking forward to hearing about the 400 Nitro bear.

Thankfully, brass isn't an issue for us here with Bruce Bertam manufacturing locally.

Bertam have recently appointed a new distributor in USA.

Thanks for that link to Desert Tech. I wasn't aware of them.

There was another source listed as Bertram Brass USA. They seem to be closing shop however.

Desert Tech is not going to be selling a lot of 577/450 brass in the US at $7.80 ($11.94 AUD) per case as long as we have access to CBC converted shotgun brass 25 in box for around $50-60.

I rely on https://www.buffaloarms.com/ my Bertram brass however, they are an established company and more aware of current markets.

But back to this Ruger No.1. Let us know if you buy this one. I bought mine to take to SA for Cape Buffalo, but health and aging took that off the map.

No sense setting it in the closet to leave for the estate sale...I am going use mine. It works well.

It sold same day - not surpising.

@DD - yep the previous BB distributor in USA is no longer. Good you have options with BA & DT at a pinch.

Sorry to hear you never got to Africa DD to use your 450/400, but at least you're getting the barrel dirty back home - that's what counts!

a 577/450 is only one step below the 450/400.
maybe because of its blackpowder load its even better so DD take the right way.
