Custom .275 Rigby

Thanks Mark. Have you pictured your rifle? If not this thread elsewhere on NE?

Here's my .275 I had built a few years back.

It's taken a couple a couple of fallow, impala, springbok, rabbits, hares and foxes.

LW barrel.
TSE profiled the barrel to match that of a traditional Rigby.
Rolf Bachnick did the metalwork.
Vardy stock blank (as it happens I also bought the action from Roger).
Stock by Ross Waghorn.

Lovely rifle!! So, now are we supposed to call you "Karamojo"?

Certainly ticks all the boxes!
Very nice example.

Could get Wato to bang the "double R" logo onto the floorplate!
Pretty sure he carries the stamper around in his back pocket...

Then you will have No.1 of 1 Bachnick/Vardy/Waghorn "Rigby" Commemorative!

Thanks all

sharps4590 - as a couple on here can attest - I’d likely lack the surgical surgical precision of the late, great Walter Dalrymple Maitland ;-)

Tony - maybe I could have the floor plate engraved 1 of 1.

Are the open sights usable with those bases?

Very nice piece indeed mate!
You wouldn't have been out of sorts bringing it up into Marraki's neck of the woods to aid his .275

Thanks Barry - the airline may have been out sorts - I was stretching the relationship with my luggage including 2 rifles as it was ;-)

Might have to get up there with it one day - or we get Marrakai to Water Valley for a .275 outing there ;-)

Just ;-(

Gunsmith had to file small channels into the bases.

I don't think I've ever used the irons on that rifle.

What weight did you manage? Need to pay extra? Which airline? Always a worry when flying.

The last paragraph, sounds like "my cunning plan". A whole bunch of us for a enjoyable group outing.

I flew Virgin this time - 1 x 23kg bag included + rifle case, in my experience Qan and Virgin both allow another 23kg for the rifle(s) - which was again the case this time … pun intended :-)

The apple air tracker things reduce my anxiety levels a little while firearms are in the ‘care’ of the airline.

Had to offload a few items to the Marrakai storage facility to make some backstrap capacity on the way home ;-)

That's better than when I last flew.

Of course nowadays passengers run the high risk of incompetent non service airlines cancelling flights.

Sounds a good idea. Some sort of GPS tracker in each piece of one's luggage.

A very nice rifle indeed!

What small-ring Mauser action did you use?

Thanks Curly,

The action is on it's 3rd life - I bought it as an action only, so not sure what it had been chambered in as a custom before I got it - it had been scrubbed of any military markings and was drilled & tapped.

Someone more knowledgeable than me suggested it was probably originally a Mexican action.

Thats a ripper rifle Mark, looks really good with the Small Ring action. Some nice trophies to go with it which is even better.

Matt.
