Another Jeffery Game Gun, a 16-bore
      #392653 - 27/07/25 08:07 PM

My W.J.bJeffery 16-bore game gun with a fox and hounds cushion and a Dachshund floor mat bought from the Munich Hunting and Fishing Museum.

Adding to Marrakai's recent 12-bore Jeffery Game Gun, my recent 16-bore Jeffery Game Gun.

Per the gauge, not patterning, choked cylinder and three quarter. The first desirable, but the second tighter choking a bit unusual if true, married to the first open cylinder choke.

Light weight at 5.6 lbs.

Serial number appears to be 27219 (?).

I've long wanted a lightweight side by side game gun. Especially for quail and similar bird shooting. Maybe pheasants and pigeons. I'll use it on anything.

Points well and feels good.

So far I've acquired a case of 4 and 6 shot. 7s, 8s or 9s much desired. Reloading 16-bore shotshellsmight be the solution and also far cheaper shot shell ammunition. 16-bore is not cheap.

Sorry for the poor quality photos, but here the gun finally is.

Serial number, 27219?

Does that look like "St James" ?

Click on the image(s) for full size images.

What do you think it reads?

Nice piece indeed John!
Noticed only proofed for the 1oz loads, surely you should be able to do a decent field load in this one, 2 1/2"case?
I think you're right in both cases, serial No ends with a 9 & The Address looks like St James to me!
Might have to get the engraving touched up later down the track.
Hope you get to use it on everything including a few rabbits.
Getting shot here in Oz.........best of luck!

27219 looks like the number and matches the number on the flats. Nice 16 bore.

Gamebore in Melbourne have a good range of 16 Bore, just make sure you get 2 1/2 inch shells not 67mm.

John: The date-range for your gun would be 1920 to '23 according to Nigel Brown.
W.J.Jeffery & Co were at St.James's until 1927 apparently.
