Thanks!

Jim,

That would be an interesting short range bullet. I normally load 9.3x72 with 4198 but that may be too slow for such a light bullet (93 to 95 gr).

Some people use light loads of shotgun powder for squib loads and for target shooting.

The followig is what I would do if developing a light load for a 9.3x72r.

I would start with 9.0 gr of Unique. I base that on seeing an Alliant loading manual load of 9.6 gr with a 125 gr bullet for a 357 S&W Mag. Your case is significantly larger and the bullet much lighter.

Another powder would be H110 which Hodgdon list a load of 15.0 gr pushing a 105 gr bullet in a 357 mag case for a pressure of 22,800 psi. Again your case is significantly larger than the 357 mag.

For very light loads, I sometimes put a 1/2" square piece of tissue on top of the powder, just to hold it in place.

Maybe some others have other crecommendations

Wasn't the 9.3x72 loaded with a 192gr. bullet and most guys use a 200gr? I did not see a light bullet (just reduced load) noted in the OP's opening post.
Here we go - Google Search:

"The 9.3x72mmR cartridge is a rimmed, bottlenecked rifle cartridge popular in Europe, particularly for drillings and combination guns. It's known for its ability to launch 193-200 grain bullets at around 2,000 feet per second, delivering a muzzle energy comparable to the .35 Remington."

Trail Boss is the easiest loading powder for reduced loads. Full charge is full to the bullet's base. Lightest load is 70% of that.
Expect vel. to be just over 1,300fps in a mildly bottle necked case.
Straight cases usually produce in the 1,100fps range.
Expect pressure to he in the 22,000 psi range judging/extrapolating by published data from Accurate Arms and Hodgdon some years ago.

Pardon me. Just reread and see Markorov bullets.
Oh well. Same powder, same 70% capacity to 100%. Will likely be 8 to 12gr. & be in the 1,500fps range. Just an estimate.

if you can get Vithavuori N 110, thats the stuff they use here for such loads, 10 - 15 grains

I had the same idea about this

Lancaster: Vihtavuori N110 is shown on burn charts as being just slightly faster than Hodghon H-110. 15.0 gr of N110 pushing a 95 gr bullet in a 9.3x72r (or 9.3x82R) seems reasonable to me.

Jim: Let us know the results of your reloading,

AR2205 is now available here in Oz, so H110 should be now over in the US being a far bigger market & more profitability than here, it's slightly slower than N110 so I'd use the same starting point for H110 as well!
Best of luck with your old girl, she'll be worth it!
It might be best to use backer rod to keep the powder up against the primer - see what the other guys think!

With light (volune) loads, I'd definitely use something to keep the powdor next to the primer.
Backer rod seems the best these days.

from an older manual when Vihtavouri was Kemira, still valid

H 110 must be a good substitute
