Looking for suggested target loads for my Merkel 16b/9.3X72R combination gun.
Thanks!

Jim,

That would be an interesting short range bullet. I normally load 9.3x72 with 4198 but that may be too slow for such a light bullet (93 to 95 gr).

Some people use light loads of shotgun powder for squib loads and for target shooting.

The followig is what I would do if developing a light load for a 9.3x72r.

I would start with 9.0 gr of Unique. I base that on seeing an Alliant loading manual load of 9.6 gr with a 125 gr bullet for a 357 S&W Mag. Your case is significantly larger and the bullet much lighter.

Another powder would be H110 which Hodgdon list a load of 15.0 gr pushing a 105 gr bullet in a 357 mag case for a pressure of 22,800 psi. Again your case is significantly larger than the 357 mag.

For very light loads, I sometimes put a 1/2" square piece of tissue on top of the powder, just to hold it in place.

Maybe some others have other crecommendations

Wasn't the 9.3x72 loaded with a 192gr. bullet and most guys use a 200gr? I did not see a light bullet (just reduced load) noted in the OP's opening post.
Here we go - Google Search:

"The 9.3x72mmR cartridge is a rimmed, bottlenecked rifle cartridge popular in Europe, particularly for drillings and combination guns. It's known for its ability to launch 193-200 grain bullets at around 2,000 feet per second, delivering a muzzle energy comparable to the .35 Remington."
