Well, the best laid plans... Didn't get to the pattern plate with the Jeffery BLE after all.

Chose baptism of fire instead!

We shoot an occasional Vintagers-style round of clays as part of our local Big Game Rifle Club monthly shoot.
Yesterday started with ten birds down the line from the middle shooting stations. At our layout that's perhaps 5m behind the trap-house.
I managed 9 of 10 as my first shots from that marvelous little double!

The five pairs that followed was not as successful (!) with a few escaping the pattern altogether!

I loaned the Jeffery to my mate Ian who totally upstaged me in the pairs, nailing 3 right'n'lefts from his 5 pairs. Pretty to watch!

I am going to be very happy with this vintage game-gun!

As an aside, a cased 16-bore SxS retailed by Army & Navy Co-op Society was on the line yesterday, a virtual clone of this Jeffery.
Webley-built, ejector, same screw-grip without doll's head, straight-hand stocked, and fully engraved. Twins!
Great to see them both busting clays together more than a hundred years after their initial debut!

Only mine has a possible maker's number on the short under-rib, his does not.
The Jeffery and A&N serial numbers are both 5 digits but not close. Guessing Webley made a fair few of these in the day.

It is good to see two old timers performing and good looking for their age..................the Shotguns that is

Will you be using it just on the range or will it get a run in the field?

This Jeffery game gun will definitely get field time.
It will be a no-brainer at the next pheasant/partridge shoot if bismuth is unavailable, on account of the cylinder-bored chokes.
Back home at the goose swamps, I sometimes bag out on geese in the mornings with plenty of whistle ducks still coming in, so swapping the Greener Empire for the Jeffery with relatively light loads of steel or bismuth would be a fun way to finish a morning shoot.

Opened the account this morning at Beatrice Lagoon.
Light shower overnight out there, hardly wet the ground but it changed the flighting a little and most of the whistle ducks that came over me were high.
Found a few within range after a long walk, the limitations of open chokes with bismuth, and managed to bag five.

First two were one of each: a plumed and a wanderer.

Wish I had more duck-sized bismuth for times like these.
Might have to go shopping for a 1.3mm drill bit to make a smaller nipple for my Shotmaster!

Nice looking ducks. Are there many fish eating ducks in Aussieland?
Merganzers, grebes?

Daryl:
None of our ducks eat fish as their main diet afaik, but we have cormorants, anhingas, and grebes, none of which are legal game birds in northern Australia.
Not very appetizing either I would venture!

Locally, the most sought-after is the Pacific Black Duck or "blackie", a bigger bird that is easier to pluck and very tasty, but they have been conspicuous by their absence from my usual haunts so far this year.
