Safari clothing bullet loops, the ideal safari travel vest
      #391883 - 07/06/25 01:53 AM

The Hollywood hero wore a shirt with bullet loops sewn in for his Nitro Express cartridges. Extracting two between his fingers to reload his double rifle during a charge.

Have you any safari clothing with sewn in large cartridge bullet loops? A shirt or safari vest?

I have a Beretta coat with 12-bore loops in the pockets. I don't think I have any safari NE sized loops. A cartirdge belt or cartridges holders with belt loops is far handier.

But I've played with the idea of the ideal "NitroExpress.com" safari hunting vest also doubling as a travel vest. My Tweed vest served the purpose on this trip. A cotton safari vest possibly with thin quilted design, would be much cooler. Tweed is excellent for cooler weather.

For travel and hunting large waist pickets for shotshells, cartridges, travel odds and ends, mobilr phones, sunglasses, glasses, etc. Button or stud closure so things don't fall out. Or to prevent pickpockets.

A loop from a higher hand pocket to allow pining up of the flaps. The higher pockets might be angled and useful as hand warmers.

Perhaps underneath the large bellows waist pockets another set of pockets, zip closing?

An inside left breast pocket for the passport, gunsl and hunting licence, slim wallet. Zip closing for security against loss, pickpockets.

Possibly a right side inside pocket as well. It might not get used when shooting.

Front zip closing. Or buttons? I prefer zip.

Back to bullet loops. For that Clarke Gable PH look maybe NE bullet loops? OR inside the waist pockets. OR Velcro inserts made from canvas Velcro inside the waist pockets. Able to be swapped and changed.

My prototype will be tailor made.

Looking forward to seeing it although of no practical use for me at this stage of life.

I suspect the Kalifornica Proposition 65 warning is for lead causing cancer when the pockets contain lead-core ammo.

Not a bad looking piece of kit.

Daryl, possibly

Passable but the NitroExpress vest will be far superior!

That one does have bullet loops though.

Some hunters I guided kitted up in the US before they came over and gave me all of their gear before they left. One of the items was a cabelas safari vest that had 2 cartridge slots, and more pockets than a pool table. The two slots could be for pens too? Doesn't matter because I don't wear it. Its hanging up in the shed. Looks pretty cool to be fair but am too concerned about ridicule to actually put it on.

Thanks for the image. It's the arch-typical photographers vest. The loops are for pens. But might be used for cartridges, if wished. Lots of pockets in one of these.

I have one. And occasionally in summer. Good for hunting, shooting and travel. I wore mine in the Amazon as well.

Wear it when you will. Don't worry about the rock apes hooting and the baying of brainless bogans.

I have one also and used it instead of a backpack for small items for day hunting.

Underneath my coat I'm wearing my old Beretta shooting vest. Hard to see. Alas I boiled it washing it when the machine got stuck with hot water on. The suede edges shrunk badly. I'll need to take some pictures. It's design might form a tailored basis for a new one, Different and more pockets.

My Pro Cam Fis coat actually unzips the sleeves and turns into a "vest". But way too heavy and too warm for warm climes. A good non waterproof safari coat though. It has a huge number of pockets. Maybe 19 to 21.

I see you have your Kodiak "in hand". COOL!
Closer look, appear to be the 12 bore barrels.

10-bore rifed barrels. Alas I've embarrassingly still to shoot it

But I'm now determined to get it shooting. Take it out for buffalo, scrub bulls, boars etc and write a NitroExpress.com article for Westley Richards Explora ezine.
