First I have heard of any of those cartridges. Pretty interesting read. They never stopped trying.

Matt,

Thanks for posting. Like Claydog, this is the first time I have heard of these Brit cartridges.

While they look interesting and had possibility if the gun press had been supportive, they had a lot of much better supported comoitition and faded away.

Reading old gun magazines and Handloader's Digests, there are so many obscure potentially great cartridges including wildcats. Most shooters have never heard of say the 256, 30,or 35 Newtons which were great cartridges, lost in time. The list goes on and on.

Matt thanks for posting. A good find and good, interesting read. Some of those would have been good cartridges.

The Newtons I was very much aware of, but not these belted ctg's of the English gun makers. I find that 6.5 eith the small capacity quite interesting. As for a "working pressure" with today's powders it should be slightly better than the 6.5/06 & have at least the same pressure ceiling.
Thanks, Matt.

Yeah no problems gents, I thought people on here might find that article interesting. While most of those cartridges shown were experimental some like the 250 and 370 Cogswell & Harrison as well as the 280 Jeffery were actually listed in their catalogs of the day. It would be interesting to know how many if any rifles were sold chambered for those cartridges. I certainly have never seen one come up for sale either overseas or here in Australia. Some of those bigger bore cartridges would have been great I reckon.

Matt.
