Oberndorf Sporter Kurz 22-250
      #391653 - 20/05/25 05:27 PM

I’m attempting to buy this at the moment, I think it’s a good price - AU$1200 (US$600 in equivalent gun value). The buyer is difficult to contact and so far the only detail it has is that it’s been rebarreled to 22-250. The bolt handle looks to me to have rather fresh bluing, and more curve than I would’ve thought. I’m not particularly well versed on Kurz sporters or even on Oberndorf sporters in general. Can anyone else pick out some points I need to investigate over the phone. Is lug set-back a concern in these early actions with something like 22-250? This would be a sight unseen purchase - it’s not worth the 24hr round trip to see it in person. I’d be looking to rebarrel to 250-3000 and use as a hunting rifle, partly for my sons. Or if the 22-250 is good and a fast twist (unlikely) keep as is, or put a new fast twist 22-250 barrel on it.

Anyone know what brand the scope is?

I'd probably not factor the scope into the valuation - the finish on the objective housing doesn't match the rest of the scope, for some reason. If it were anything good then the seller would name and promote it.

Bummer! Obviously you don't know much about high grade scopes. This is a Zeiss (West) Diatal C 3 - 9 x 36 variable, one of the best compact scopes made anywhere in the 1980s. 1" tube diameter, Z-plex reticle. The objective bell is covered with a rubber sleeve for ruggedness and noise prevention. You may remove that rubber cover if you prefer the look of the black laquer finish underneath better.Such scopes go for Euro 700.- and up if available used.

I would have bought immediately. A rebarrel would still be worth it.

Thanks guys, it sold. The bloke that sent me the photos admitted they were actually a couple of months old. I reckon the first person to have seen it and even vaguely knew what it was would’ve snapped it up without hesitation

700 Euro (approx. $1,230 AUD) - holy crap! I wouldn't pay that much for it. It doesn't even have parallax adjustment.

At that price the rifle would be a discount to the cost of the scope.

Most scopes at 3-9 do not have parallax adjustments. I know of none that do.
I would not pay that much for a used 1980's scope, either & certainly didn't pay that for the Swarovski scope in claw mounts on the 6.5x57 I purchased last fall - maybe couple hundred or so.
