Very nice indeed! Hard to improve, but my choice for a 2-barrel takedown on a magnum-length Mauser would be .375 H&H and .300 H&H. Also nice that they have used that older Deeley-style latch.

Yes.
If it was for me definitely a dual h&h choice.
And a far plainer working rifle with a few custom embellishments.

Nice.
An all WR dual barrel set up would be interesting.

Tony, according to what WR have said in recent posts is that they have switched across to the Deely Latch for all their take-down rifles. Certainly all the ones they have shown over the last couple of years have that system.

"Westley Richards has applied two types of take-down system over the years; the old bayonet type and the screw-thread, which is used here.
The original bayonet fitting was replaced around 1908 with the screw-thread but we have recently re-engineered the bayonet system using modern machinery, which removes its shortcomings and fashions each section from a solid billet.
We can, therefore, now offer customers a choice."

Claydog, that is correct however in this case we were referring to the take-down locking latch on the forend rather than the type of locking thread used on the barrel.

That would be a good choice.
Do they use the same bolt head size?
Also the magazine construction might be an issue? I noted WR mentioned a lot of work on the magazine. I think a 300 and 375 H&H would fit close enough. One of these has been a dream of mine since 1994 .

Yes I think it would be quite the challenge (or impossible?) to get a magazine / feed rail arrangement to cooperate with 318 and 425

Mark, you would be better of having a two gun battery for those two cartridges.

.425 WR has a reported rim dis of .467". The .318 has a rim dia of .464". The boalt face for the .425" should work just fine on the Rigby ctg.

Very cool rifle. However, it’s been my experience in Africa that if you have 2 guns with you , you always have the wrong gun in your hand. Unless the gun is a .375. Either in a bolt action or a double, It will work on everything !!!!! I cant imagine having the .300 barrel on when you “stumble” onto a big buffalo. Don’t get me wrong a switch barrel rifle is very cool, just don’t know how practical it is? And, that’s not to take anything from this setup, just my 2 cents.

The switch barrel can be chosen for different hunts.
It's a bit silly to use a 375 on a purely plains game hunt. Unless one wants to.
Or if hunting mountain game, deer etc.
I recognised this limitation. So I purchased two Mauser M03 switch barrel rifles. With four barrels. I can have a 8x68S and a .404 at the same time.
And carry them in a shorter gun case.

Totally agree John. I guess I was thinking more of a “General Bag Safari” , If you are traveling for a specific animal , I guess it would be just fine.

My first safari my .30-06 did the lot from duiker to eland. Worked mostly fine when the bullets performed. Funny one idiot PH in the camp said a .30-06 was too light for eland. So Wayne my PH wanted to prove him wrong. And I did.
I did feel for a dedicated medium game trophy hunting rifle something slightly more powerful and flatter shooting might be good. So I later opted for a 8x68S. A .300 Magnum.is often the choice.
My second safari in South Africa and Zimbabwe was mainly for Cape buffalo was with a .375 H&H Magnum. But also Waterbuck, impala, zebra, bushbuck.
My third safari aiming at elephant my .450 NE DR was the main rifle. But i also took my 9.3x74R. I also borrowed Karl Stumpfe's M98 in 8x68S. Elephant, gemsbok, springbok, hartebeest, zebra and s numbervof warthog.
A problem with modern hunting travel is it can be impractical or two costly to take more than one rifle. Due to airlines luggage weight restrictions. So a compromise rifle might be needed. A switch barrel rifle might prove an even better compromise.

Interesting about the '06 not being enough for Eland. Lately, I've watched a video, twice, of a chap shooting an Eland with a 350gr. FN cast bullet from a German Company's rifle called an "Umarex" Hammer .50 cal.(rifle made in the USA). The Eland walked slowly, kind of in a 1/2 circle, maybe 25 to 30yds and dropped dead. That rifle is an air rifle, developing about 870fps muzzle vel. & producing about 866fpe. Impressed I was, so I bought one. LOL - fun to shoot and actually recoils(but not much)

I ran into an old Zimbabwe farmer years ago, he had 1 gun it was a beautiful Manlicher Rifle in a 30/06. Said he’d killed everything from duiker to elephant with it. Still had several boxes of Kynoch 220 grain solids. I’ve used a 7x57 on a couple of Eland, it’s plenty of gun (I suspect a 30/06 would be even better)

As I said the other PH in the camp was a bit of an idiot and a middle aged wannabe.
I used 200 gr Nosler Semi pointed Partitions. A bullet no longer made.

I do have some 180gr. Spitzer partitions for the '06, but haven't tried them yet. The rifle likes IMR4451, H4350 & W760/H414 with 180gr. Hornady SST's.

By chance I took 180 gr Spitzer Partitions and 200 gr Semi Pointed Partitions. Shot to a similar point of impact.
My batch of 180s, normally reputed to be a very good bullets were failing. Acting like a FMJ. I believe the front half was blowing off in a shallow wound. The shank acted ike a FMJ. Wounded animals with follow ups. I switched to the 200 grs immediate improvement. Judea, the tracker thought it was a different rifle.
But I used the same handloads of 180 grs on my sambar stag. No problems. Ran less than 50 metres and crashed down dead in the middle of a blackberry patch.
