RCBS Group L 500/450 N.E. 3-1/4 3 die set

These dies are somewhat hard to find so I thought I would post this sale if anyone is interetsed. The price does seem high to me but I seldom see these for sale.(I paid less for my set but I bought those some 20 years ago.

It does say "or best offer"...
RCBS recommended shell-holder doesn't look right?

I just paid a similar price for (new) .318 WR dies here in Oz.
The most I have ever paid for dies, though...

"suggested shell holder 450/400" is absolutely not correct.

.500/.450 3 1/4" NE case is based upon the .500NE 3 1/4" and that's the proper shell holder, same as .470NE or the .500/.416

Tony and Mike,

Good catch on the shell holder.

While the cost quoted is very high to me, those dies don't show up that often and may be worth it to someone with a 500/450 3 1/4".

Looking at eBay, I see dies for large caliber rifles like 458 Lott and 460 Weatherby for $80 and under and then other calibers for $200 - $300. I guess it is a manner of supply & demand.

Precisely this.
Ever since RCBS quit the custom (& esoteric) loading die business it has become much more of a challenge to source dies for the rather more rare Nitro Express and Black Powder Express rifles.
Yes, ch4D does sometimes have stock on hand or will custom make dies, but if not readily in stock it can be up to a 2 year wait for dies.
Hence the price of those relatively scarce used loading die sets. IMO the $225 (OBO) asking price is not out of line at all.

I had CH4D "make" me a set of dies and sent 3 fired cases for them to use, as they requested.
They send a generic set of dies based on Ackley measurements with the shoulders a full .005" undersize. I returned the dies with another set of fired cases and they refused to alter them, sending back the dies they had originally sent. Assholes in my book.
