That is an intense process. That rifle went to the right home.

buckstix, my camera is kaputt so only low quality mobil phone pics. I hope you see whats happen.

right original 11,2x60 Schüler cartridge, left brass made from 300 Win Mag
I had to lathe turn the case a little bit because it was to thick in diameter over the base.
then I made a tool for turning the rebated rim in one operation. you see how I used two tools 10mm x 10 mm side by side. one tool grind to make the base with the extractor groove, the other tool to turn the rim diameter. I build a clamp to fix both tools in the right position before chuck them on the carriage.

when done with the tools I take only a file and debur the rim outside in a moment so its ready in one operation.

the other tool for cuting brass on the lathe is my so called "butterknife"

you see I grind it very sharp

it cuts brass very easy but I have also use this to cut steel cases

its no problem at all to cut down brass on the lathe and its so good I will not use the case trimmer after this. rimmed brass will be siting in the notch of the lathe chuck. for rimless brass I have a threaded rod I can adjust from the other side of the chuck, its having a hole for longer workpiece.

I talk with a friend about it, he is a full fledged cartridge collector. find it in volume 3 of Josef Mötz "Austrian Military Cartridges" where its named 9,3x60 Peterlongo

https://www.waffenbuecher.com/publikatio...atronen-band-3/

anyway I believe the book is wrong here, the rifle is a .375, there is the advertisement for a 9,5 mm Peterlongo. Don't think there was another 9,3x60 Peterlongo, the world was not big enough for two similar proprietary cartridges.

Lancaster

however, in the IAA forum discussion
https://forum.cartridgecollectors.org/t/9-5-mm-peterlongo/46287/8

there is this note:
"....but please note this one is a different cartridge designated “9.5 mm”. The 1926 catalog where it came from also includes the 9.3/9.4x60 Peterlongo...."
One would assume that Peterlongo (actually Richard Mahrholdt) knew back then what he was offering.

I have now linked this thread and the one in the DG forum to the IAA forum thread - hope these guys have more information

hard to understand why Mahrholdt make both caliber co close together

I think that at that time there was a lot of experimenting, and creating new cartridges was easy.
Probably less "red tape" than a wildcatter in Germany will face today...

Cartridges for a new caliber were probably loaded inhouse, as was done already in black powder times, creating additional income for the gunsmith, and ensuring quality control and customer binding.
Compare Scheiring in Ferlach, who provides hand-loaded ammunition for his rifles even today.

And if the gunsmith could sell a few more rifles by listing another caliber, that was fine.
