A Rare 9.5mm cal. Peterlongo Take-Down Mauser - cased

I wonder if anyone else saw this at auction this weekend. Its the best Peterlongo I have ever seen. The 9.5 caliber is actually a .375 caliber - but not sure if its a 9.5x57, or a 9.5x60 cartridge, or ?? ... anyone with info on what this caliber might be, please chime in. And .... its on the way to join its big brother here in Wisconsin.

as always, your comments are most welcome.

this is a fantastic rifle, could be anything from 9,5x56 Mannlicher Schönauer to 375 H&H. I never heard of a 9,5 Peterlongo but he had some special cartridges so maybe. Could be also a 9,5x73 Miller& Greis or 9,5x66 Vom Hofe?
Peterlongo in Innsbruck allways had an offer for the africa hunter.

Is that a chamber cast sitting in the case?
The 9.5X73 M&G is much like a 404 necked to .375 but the 9.5X66VH looks something like that cast.

Buck, were you at the auction?

Swell rifle!

I'm anxious to get it in hand .. it will be a couple of weeks .. I found that the IAA forum discusses and shows a 9.5x60 Peterlongo cartridge, which looks like a shorter version of the 11.2x72 Schuler, except in 9.5 mm caliber - which is a .375 dia. bullet. Hope it turns out to be such, as I have plenty 11.2x72 Schuler brass that I can form into 9.5x60.

Certainly a bit of confusion in regards to the calibre it even could be from reading the cartridge info, referring possibly to 9.3, 9.4 as well 9.5 might be best to even slug your bore Buckstix!
Hope it turns out what you hope it is, it will be a fair thumper considering if its based on a shortened 11.2x72mm case!
Lovely piece of kit there mate, & you'll have to make up another label for the case that it comes in!
Got a few challenges yet to accomplish!

Congrats Buckstix. I saw the listing for the rifle and thought that it was a very nice kit. I live in West Earl, PA not far from the auction house.

Interesting purchase. I love cased Mauser takedowns. They look very perfect in their cases.

It will be interesting to see what cartridge chambering your "lucky dip" results in? I'd like to see one of the bigger boomers mentioned.

Buckstix, I'm interested in your sunroom. Do you have a series of safes? A large underground bunker man cave gun room lined with open racks and leather furniture? Gun cases piled up in the corner, and leaned up against walls and corners? I doubt the latter, from such an organised enthusiast.
