Wow, what beauties - I’d love to see one in the flesh. Did they let you handle one?

Now isn't that an odd one, grain going everywhere. Pretty special.

Looks like the bottom metal is hanging out of the wood, hopefully an optical.

I see what you mean, does look a tiny bit proud.
I wouldn't call it hanging out of the wood, though.
The one to it's right, has the tang of the bottom metal a little bit deep.

It could be the camera angle or the light, but all 3 surely do not look like the best effort on wood to metal fit. Especially considering that these are display examples meant to show off their work.
As usual, just my 2 Pence worth.

Mark,

Thanks for the photo. Post more if you have them.

Which model was these examples, the Big Game, Highland Stalker, or other? What chamberings? I dread to ask the prices?

If I attended I could have looked for a pair of Courtney boots, I'm sure would be somewhere there in a stand.

Was the Aussie Rigby reps stand up to the usual Rigby standard? Safari tenting, or tartan, or some other theme?

I couldn't attend the SHOT Show, I had interest but no firm plans.

I was busy at an ARC clubs shoot weekend. Field clays 150 over four courses on the weekend. Several lunches and dinners.

ARC consists of a number of Gentlemen (and Ladies) clubs, with clubs from every state attending. I attended as part of the Naval Military and Airforce Club of SA. We cam fourth (or fifth?). Public photos are banned so none can be listed, I didn't take any anyway.

Interesting the Saturday night dinner had a Barrister speaker speaking on the cancer of wokeness, PCness and Cancel Culture.

Back to Marks SHOT Show!

John - sounds like a good day out.

As I recall, the Rigbys in my pic were

.275s

the one in the middle was $22k

the other one may have been a bit less

8x57 $18k

they had the new Big Game light in 350 Rigby - $25k IIRC - the timber was quite light on that.

They had a couple of BGs - from memory a 416 and a 450.

I didn't get any more pics.

I didn't see any COurtneys on the Rigby stand (or other stands).

The stand was good - I told Tom he needs to hassle Marc to get the Rigby Land Rover out here one year ;-)

WR retails Courtney boots. Their used to be a Victorian importer. I like to try on boots before buying. Especially at that price.

There is a mob in NSW that import them

https://www.courteneyboot.com.au/

I'm with you - definately want to try on.

Caught up with a mate last who was wearing his Jim Greens and loved them.

The guy in NSW is called Malcom Nott.He is stone deaf so email or text works best. If you have a wider foot you will need the half size bigger. I normally take size 9 with all my footwear but needed 9 1/2 with the Courtney's. You can also take a tracing of your foot and send it to him. If the size isn't right he takes the old ones back and sends out new ones at no cost.

Matt.

110% with you on that.

I'm suspecting that machine work has overtaken the hand fitting of the Rigby Mauser.

Of course, way back in the day of the first Rigby/Mauser relationship, meaning turn of the 19th/20th Centuries, Mauser more or less built the Rigby rifles to their specification from start to finish.
Surely they used some sort of replicating machinery to work the metal (of course) and also the stocking.
Now, how much handwork was employed to finish the product is open to conjecture.
That said, one would naturally expect that a modern Rigby produced Mauser would have inletting and finishing more than equal to the, let's say, military production rifles of the '30s.
The fitting around the bottom metal of these sporters is not all that impressive with the price in mind.
In my most humble opinion, any rifle with a pricetag over $4K should not allow any criticism of the wood to metal fit and finish.

$4,000 ?

In Australia the stock work alone used to cost that.if not more.

A $20,000+ priced rifle, yes.
