My buddy just picked up a 9.3x57 Oberndorf with matching serial numbers that puts it manufactured in 1924-1925. But the proof marks include the crown over N and there is an extra set of proofs on the left with the top proof I can’t make out. I understand the crown over N proof didn’t start until the late 1930s. So how does the 1925-25 date of manufacture work with the crown over N and what is with the extra set of proof marks?
The second set of proofmarks are crown/R = repair proof and crown/U = inspection after proof firing. Most likely the rifle got a new barrel in the1930s. At the same time the now necessary crown/N = Nitro was added to the original proofmarks. The new barrel was numbered to the receiver, as was customary at the Mauser factory.
I resize all my pictures for sites that require a maximun size or smaller, is my paint app that is available if I right click on the picture in my computer, then click on "edit". I selected re-size, then usually, if it's 3 meg or over, set it at 30% or 40% and click the X. That brings up a screen "save as", which I do and that converts the picture to between 600 and 700 kg. Then you have to transfer your picture to an online upload site, or send it to a different forum with a "straight from your computer upload system" so it gets "published" to the internet. Then THAT address can be uploaded to this forum within the brackets [IMG] and [/IMH]. Most guys here is an upload site.
