Deely & Edge take-down sporter chambered in .250 rook. This is the first one that I have encountered, I really like it.

Magnificent Rook Rifle, you should be very pleased with that purchase. Well done.

I like it a lot. Very nice slim streamlined lines.

It looks a lot like another rifle, a replica, shown on here in the past.

What ballistics, bullet weight, type of case does a .250 Rook shoot? Is it the .297/250 Rook?

Really nice rifle.

I believe that the rifle is indeed a 297/250. I still need to do a chamber cast on it.

Steve,

What a very nice rifle. I like the Deely & Edge action and it is very nice in a sporter. Seeing this action in rook size is very neat. That is great find.

Certainly a wonderful piece - get find!
Can the cases be made from Hornet cases or something else entirely?

Yes, the .250 Rook is the same thing as the .297/250. Many of the earlier Rook rifles were not marked with their calibre.

This round can indeed be re-created by using .22 Hornet brass, but usually the rims will need to be thinned from the inside. About two grains of a medium speed pistol powder will propel a 50 grain bullet at about the speed of sound. Bullets can often be cast by using .25 ACP moulds.

My .250 is a simple side hammer break barrel retailed by Army & Navy, made in Birmingham.

Ross Siegfried wrote a detailed report about various Rook rifles in the Double Gun Journal several years ago. He said the .250 was his favourite. [Apologies to our American cousins for spelling things correctly.]

Historicbore, I saw no spelling errors when talking about this .250 calibre.
Beautiful little rifle.

you should take a look at .25 cal airgun slugs https://nielsenspecialtyammo.com/collections/25-cal

the german made H&N slugs I measure were in fact .251 and just perfekt for reloading the 25 ACP. its not possible to cast for this price.

I would never recommend using any full metal jacket bullets in an original Rook rifle. To achieve the correct velocity pressures need to be higher because of the higher friction of the FMJ, which is not good for old early steel.

Good tip about the air rifle pellets, if they are heavy enough.

you can load them in 25 acp and they make the pistol working semi auto, have seen this with 28, 36 and 44 grains slugs.
so you can say they are strong enough to withstand nitro powder pressure, I would go with the heaviest weight available.

I cast 51gr. FN BT bullets in pure lead for my .25 cal. Condor air rifle using an N.O.E. 4 cavity mould. After cooling down, I use Lyman Moly bullet spray to coat them. There is no measurable increase in size.
It is possible that one of the Air Gun slug makers makes a slug in the 40 to 50 gr. range.
