Just Another Krag Sporter.....
      #385876 - 20/07/24 11:36 AM

I recently was lucky enough to stumble across this exceptionally well-made Krag. The checkering on the forend is so familiar, I just can't put my finger on the maker(reminds me of Fred Adolph's style sort of). Regardless, I'm pleased to have found it, and it will likely take a North Texas deer in the fall.
Enjoy!

I really like that Krag. One of the nicest sporters that I have seen. Tell us how she does at the range.

It's in the 30-40 Krag, and I haven't made it to the range yet.

Texan72,
That is a very beautiful Krag, and the 30/40 cartridge is very a effective medium range cartridge. It should be fun at the range and in the field. Nice to hunt with a nice looking rifle.

The 30-40 is a great cartridge for cast bullets. I've been having fun casting and reloading for my Remington Lee 1899 sporter in 30-40. I plan on taking her deer hunting this year.

No flies on a Hornady 220gr.RN at 2,000fps or 180RN @ 2,200fps.
Fully capable in cast bullets of those weights as well.

Even though I'm not a fan of the Krags, like you cousins across the pond are, you certainly have a well preserved specimen that will most definitely be able to flatten any dear or virtually anything else for that matter!
The full equal of the 303 British, just in a different calibre that's all.
Both old military rounds they certainly make fantastic hunting rounds if mated with the right projectiles!
Love to see what the range report brings!

That's a nice looking rifle. Unlike you Barry, I like the Krag's, I have an action sitting in the States ( it was given to me ) but the cost to bring it over is just ridiculous....thousands !!

Thanks, everyone. I'm very pleased to have found it.
If anyone can think of who the maker may have been, let me know. I keep thinking it looks familiar but can't place the checkering on the forend.
Thanks,
RJ
