Savage 99 Identification question

Hi all, I am asking this for a friend as he is not able to find anything about it.

The rifle is a Savage 99G made in 1923 and is a 22HP. The markings are 3NN and comes from Queensland.
Does anybody know what the 3NN markings are from or for. They are on the butt just before the action and on the metal work just in front of the action on the metal.

The markings as far as we can tell are not CMF or Police Id's. Any ideas on what they mean or from.

I have pictures but can't upload then as the ole drag and drop does not work. About the limit of my technical know how.

What host site are you using for photos you want to post on forums? If Imgur, you have the option of drag and drop or browse, the latter allows you to browse for photos stored on your PC, select your photos then hit Open and they will upload to Imgur from where you can select the BBCode link and paste into your forum post.

Eagle27 I am using that site but for the last couple of months it has been playing up and not performing as it should. So far I have not had any reply's from them about the problem.

I've not seen numbers and letters like that before and I've owned and examined quite a few M99's.

Thanks LRF, much appreciated.

The mate who is asking has been an avid 99 collector for 40 years has not seen them either. I was thinking maybe a Pastoral Company may have stamped their rifles like this.
