What Model of Mauser?
      #385650 - 07/07/24 11:33 AM

Gentlemen,

What model of Mauser is this? Are they any good? This on is in .308 and is a reasonable price for a decent hunting rifle...

Not enough info. It’s a commercial Mauser - not ex mil. What are the markings on the other side of the receiver? Someone else may recognise the bottom metal. It may be good, it may not - all depends on bore and general condition. It’s a 98, so yes it’s a good model

CarlsenHighway:
It has a BSA CF-2 look about it, but perhaps the safety is not quite right.
Worth a GoogleImages search for that action to see if there were differences in the safety.
Could be something else altogether of course...

I managed to figure out its a Mauser Model 2000 - circa 1970

(Not a 98 - bolt looks like a push-feed sako extracter type thing.)

It was made for them by Heym, who then continued with the model for themselves as the Heym SR10...

Eeh, I am more classically minded.

Well there we go - that’ll teach me to look more closely and not make assumptions… I have a Mauser 4000 in 222 - the small action version. Nice rifle, accurate and well made with a very good single stage trigger. However, ejection is a bit weak (a well noted issue), and the bolt stop is frail. I’ve considered selling it and hunting down a CRF in 222 but never quite get motivated
