I actually asked this question about two years ago, got a thousand views but not one answer....Anyone shooting a 375 x 2 1/2" Flanged Nitro Express out of a 22"-23" barrel ? What sort of speeds are you getting with a 250 or 270 gr pill ??

I have 2 mates with .375 Lee Speeds.
No promises, but I'm sure they will share.

Roger,
I have a Charles Boswell Lee Speed in .375 2 1/2” with a 25” barrel. Have not chronographed it, but use .375 2 1/2” “vintage duplication” loads from (I forget which right now) either Graeme Wright’s book or the Woodleigh manual.
Not as short a barrel as yours, but when I get a chance I’ll check velocity and post results here.
- Mike

Ken Waters built up a .375 on a .303 case with very slight shoulder, many years ago. It was on a Ruger #1. He called it a .375 Rimmed and got 2,000fps with 270gr. Hornady's.
Not quite the same, but close.

Thanks, very interesting, it looks like the 270grs are getting around 1900 out of such a short barrel.
My barrel is still 25" and I'll start load testing with some 245gr hard casts and probably whittle the barrel down a bit as I go, mainly for feel and balance

Don't panic, its not a vintage rifle I'll be cutting up. I'm building it from a 1903 LSA actioned No.1 Mk111 'roo shooters rifle that was originally in 303-25....its had a pretty hard life up until now...

The problem is getting them into Australia, I make mine from 9.3x74r brass, plus I have some old Kynoch's for show...

Check with Bertram in Victoria. I think it may be one of the calibres he makes from time to time.

He certainly does and he normally has everything on his list in stock.

I finally found my old records from a couple of years ago when I have a 375x2.5

Using Bertram brass
200 gn flat Nose (.375 Win projectiles) and 41 gns ADI 2206H I got 1715fps.
and
270 gn Woodleighs and 46gn ADI 2208 (corrected) 1950 fps

Both accurate loads.

Tis was with a 24 inch barrel. I hope this helps.

As far as the ballistics and game suitability go, I shot two BC moose with a 220gr. FN from a .375 Winchester having a muzzle velocity of 1,940fps. The first moose was only about 60yards away, the second was a good 100.
Worked very well. Broadside through both lungs, dropped in 1 1/2 steps.
