Been carrying the 7x64 for a few trips. It all came together this arvo. Local spot and only 300m in got honked by a hinde and she stood long enough for a shot. Quartering on at 80m off hand.Bolted at the shot and heard her go down. 40m from the hit . Shot was on the point of the shoulder and projectile found offside in front of rear leg. Used a 135gr atomic.
Here's pics, cheers Mick

Ditto.
Those full-grown sambar hinds sure are big!
All the better for filling the chiller of course.

Brought a bit of venison back to Darwin myself recently, will post when I get the chance.

And congrats on successfully fielding the Mauser 66.
Personally I'm entrapped in traditionalism and always regarded the 66 as a bit of a contraption,
but I appreciate a lot of hunters like them and put them to good work!

Excellent chambering for deer too, especially with Atomics by the look!

Couple more with the 66
Hinde late arvo hunt, worked a bench with a lot of sign 30m shot drop and fall a few metres so another. Easy recovery

Fallow doe , break in crappy weather and sunny so a early hunt. Gully 200m from the car drop on spot, down hill drag and short carry.

Terrific pen. for such a light bullet in 7mm. If course the copper bullets do that well.
Good stuff, Mic.

I'm interested in the fallow deer. Hunted and shot in sambar country?

Fairly common to have both species in a lot of state land in our area. The fallow in the thick stuff are a challenge outside of the rut. Totally different to open land hunting. Occasionaly reds in the same areas.
The area the doe came from is mainly fallow, occasional sambar and pigs.

Put a few weeks in after this one, decent amount of sign and it came together the other arvo. 25m after he burst out of some cprosma. thought it was a stag and realised it was a boar. As soon as he stopped let the shot go for a drop on the spot. Ripper boar, first with 7x64.
Here some pics.....
