Mauser M short Action 6,5x54
      #384033 - 09/04/24 09:22 PM

Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I am a hunter and collector from Germany.
I have a Mauser M Stuzen cal. 6.5x54 Mauser short system in its original condition.
It is factory equipped with a Zeiss target four (sniper adjustment) and single square bridge.
The Zeiss has the very rare Z Rail rail.
I would like to ask you what such a rifle might be worth?
I couldn't find a comparable offer on the www.
Thank you in advance
Best regards
Christian

Welcome to the forum, Christian.
V-nice rifle.
Sorry, I have no idea what that rifle might 'bring' on the current market, around the world. Here where I live, maybe $2,500.00 cdn. Not much 'market' for something like this in this small city in central B.C.

An outstanding time capsule!
This Zielvier is not an sniper version, the markings on the elevation disc are normal. Scopes with Zeiss "Patentklemme" where never used for military purposes.

Dolf,

That is a very nice rifle/scope combination. Thank you for showing it.

On the question of value, I thonks that really depends somewhat on location. That is, it may be valued higher in the US than say in Germany which has stricter gun laws which may reduce the potential number of vintage collectors.

Here in B.C., it is chambered for a round for which factory ammo is not available except for on special order or handloading, thus the value is likely not what it would "bring" elsewhere.

I think the weapon should not be seen as a normal hunting weapon.
It is a piece of contemporary history and something for lovers of classic weapons or collectors
Best Regards

Very nice piece Dolf!
Hope you can get plenty of factory ammo / components for your rifle, would make a great all round hunter for European use!

Hello Christian:

I got your PM asking for my impressions. Welcome to the forums!

Your Mauser Type M is a wonderful and desirable piece of history. As noted by several members above, the value of this rifle depends on a number of factors. The first is location. It is in Germany. Personally, I have no idea of its value in Germany, as I know nothing about the market there. Our member, "Lancaster", is a German citizen who watches the market carefully. He may be better informed as to the value in the German market.

As for the international market (i.e. the U.S. market), the rifle is hampered by the various regulations governing exports and imports. It has been a long time since I last had a firearm imported to the U.S., but I can tell you it runs into some expense and troublesome details. That process certainly puts downward pressure on the value of your rifle in a foreign market. In other words, that rifle is worth considerably more to a U.S. buyer if it is being offered for sale in a U.S. gunshop. If the buyer has to arrange its export from Germany and import to the U.S., it is worth considerably less.

We have a member of these forums who goes by the moniker, "sbs470". He is a citizen of Australia with a lot of knowledge of commercial Mauser rifles. You might reach out to him for information.

Mention has been made of the difficulty to obtain ammunition for your rifle. That certainly is a factor to be considered. But as you mentioned, a collector is less affected by "exotic" ammunition.

Are you wanting to sell this rifle?

Again, welcome to the forums.

Curly

Regarding your PM, I've no idea of the value. I'm not a "collector". Nor interest in "collecting" rifles, or stuff. in general. I'd buy it as a using hunting rifle if it was of interest.

Nice rifle.
