I have an eccentric insane plan to paint mine with zebra stripes. Did a search for designs. Found a good one. I'd thought about acquiring a model 4WD or a series 80 and painting that as a prototype first, see what it looks like. Found a Japanese site selling them. Can't work out how to buy it. Saved the pictures and designs.
My diesel Series 80 is a commercial model. Purchased second hand from the electricity supply company.
It has reasonably low kilometres. Reasonable condition. Not fast. Slow accelerating. I think fuel economy is not good, but if I drive 90 KMPH or less, it might bevaclot better.
It will do me for another decade I hope,
I'm going to buy my dad's Mitsubishi Ztriton utility, 4WD, for the farm as well. Acutility is very useful on a farm. Low KMs, driven by pensioners itscwhole life.

I still have my 1996 80 Series as well, no plans to change anytime soon although a twin-cab conversion is on the wish list.
They were a very well made car with a good size, big enough to fit a reasonable amount of gear without being too big that you struggle on some of the tracks. Strong driveline let down by one of the shittiest handbrakes ever. Good seating position and dash layout and good visibilty.
With good suspension, good tires and lockers they are extremely capable.
Matt.
