Interesting. Do not use Potassium CHLORATE.

That was part of the explosive mixture pre-1900 for pil locks and tube locks.

That formula was 5:1:1 (white) Potassium Chlorate:sulfur:charcoal = VERY EXPLOSIVE!!!!!!

A local man at my club is making excellent black powder. Commercial quality home made stuff.

Very much needed in these days of powder and component shortages.

Potassium Chlorate fouling is also excessively corrosive.

You might be able to make BP in SA, not so in QLD, Heaven forbid it could be used for nefarious purposes like shoot an old rifle

Daryl:
I'm gunna say that corrosive doesn't factor-in these days when we all clean our guns pretty-much straight after shooting them.
Sometimes in hunt camp a barrel might be fired early in the morning and not wiped till the evening,
but I generally follow the old black-powder rule of never letting the sun set on a fouled barrel!

Mat, you don't quite understand the parameters of how "corrosive" fits in this manner. Chlorate fouling, Perchlorate fouling also present in Pyrodex(17% of the charge), but not apparently in T-7, when combined with moisture from the air, or perhaps just from the wet patch, is acidic in nature, an acid that has an affinity to iron molecules. It dissolves them, forming cratered pits having excavated sides, not normal rusting as with black powder.
Black powder fouling is not corrosive in the same sense, but it is more of an oxidizer in that it forms rust with iron molecules, normal rust - if the humidity is above about 35%. If the humidity is under 35%, black powder fouling becomes inert.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Daryl.

I could never get past the hygroscopic properties of fouling from all the BP substitutes (pyrodex, black max, triple 7 etc),
and just couldn't understand why nobody wanted to make a "dram equivalent" or volume-equivalent smokeless powder that wasn't corrosive.

Bring back Schultze powder...?

I didn't known what that was so I asked Mrs Google!

your better stay in good relationship with this man, what price did he sell his powder?
if the quality of the blackpowder is only average - its better than being not able to find anything at all.

back to ammonium nitrate blackpowder, it looks like he finaly find a mixture that burn quicker than swiss and is also cleaner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooyNYIiJmEI

well, my own humor would like the toilet paper blackpowder more
