My favorite Tiger Hunter.Maybe someday i can vist the park. What a trip that would be! How are the tigers doing now world wide?Is the park doing good or is poaching ruining everything? How many people are still killed by cats every year?

I wish they would make a movie about Papa Corbett like they did the savo lions -The ghost and the darkness. No matter how hard a hunt gets i always think of him climbing those mountains after those maneters!Dont you know it would be hard to hunt them at night in a tree as he did!His writings make you feel as if you are there with him.I first heard of him thru Peter Capsticks stories in the early 80s.Enough good cant be said of him and his heroic deeds.Brave man if one ever lived!Didnt he hunt with a .275 rigby sometimes and is it the equal of a 7mm magnum? What was his big bore Double rifles chambered in?Anyone got any pics of his rifles or tigers?Any info would be great!

The .275 Rigby is the same as the 7 x 57mm Mauser, not as powerful as the 7mm Remington Magnum but a classic cartridge all the same. I would never part with my 7 x 57!!!

About 15 years ago the BBC(at least, I think it was the BBC) made a drama documentary of his later life. - I had a copy of the programme for many years but sadly lost it about 5 years ago...... you might be able to locate a tape of the programme via their website. - 'fraid I can't remember the title though.

"Maneaters of Kumaon" was the first book I read cover to cover as a kid. I open it often to this day...

Well stated, IMO the 7X57 is one of the great cartridges of all times, equal to the great 375 H&H. I have three bolt rifles in my hunting battery, all Brno ZKK rifles that I have had customized.
1. 7X57 2. 375 H&H 3. 458 Lott
The 7X57 has taken more game than all the other calibers I have owned put together. It was my first caliber big game rifle and I too will nevr be without one.

Blackbearhunter, Excellent pics. Corbett national Park is still going strong. They have a healthy population of game, Tigers included. Summer is the best time to go if you want to view Tiger, as the leaf is off the tree, and the game tends to concentrate around the water. Masheer fishing in the Ramganga is pretty good. The BBC documentary 'Shakari' mentioned is called 'Man Eaters of Kumaon'. It is pretty disappointing, but because it is shot in Kumaon, the scenery is spectacular. There is some authentic black and white hunting footage, and it covers one story, I think on the Mohan Maneater. I have a taped copy, and can run one off for you if you are interested. M
