Pair of Belgian Percussion Dueling or Target Pistols

Sharing a recent acquisition, a nice vintage pair of dueling or target pistols.

These are ~ .44 caliber; proofed 11.8mm. They were marketed by C. Mode of Paris. they remain "as new." I'm not sure whether I will fire them.

Has anyone been slapped with a glove recently?

I think you are a coward and a weakling if you never fire your duelling pistols ....

What are you going to do about that?

That is a lovely pair of duelers, Curly
That mould with swing-off sprue cutter is the first I have seen, of that vintage/age.
I see the powder measure is for a tiny charge of powder.
Beautiful, "in case complete".

Marvelous cased percussion pistols, Curl!
Congratulations!

Stocked in ebony? Certainly gives them a business-like appearance!
...so I'd like to think of them as duelers rather than target pistols.

Quality collectables indeed.

Every Southern gentleman needs a fine pair of duelling pistols. Well done.

Still waiting for your response. yellow livered hillbilly Virginian!

They certainly appear to be ebony. It makes a marvelous stock, however inletting parts in it, is extremely difficult. Tools need to be kept razor sharp or it chips badly.
They are a lovely pair for certain.

All of the wood is ebony: the stocks, the mallet, both accessory/patch containers, the cleaning rod, the handle on the nipple wrench, and the seating rod.

I would think it requires great skill to stock pistols such as these in ebony.

Lovely pair of pistols. I'm not knowledgeable on pistols. I thought that I remember reading that target pistols have sights whereas dueling pistols do not. Please educate me.

Magnificent comes readily to mind!
Just in case the white glove out, the previous owner(s) would have frightened off any who were slighted & hence probably never used!

Very similar styling to the replica "Le Page" duelling. Pistols.

I wanted a set of them before bp pistols became deadly handgun weapons of choice for rmodern robbers under licensing.

I like both sets a lot.
