The Webley PHV-1 action
      #379116 - 06/09/23 10:43 PM

HI good folks.

I am trying to figure out when the hammerless Webley longbar action saw its first day. I have "The British Boxlock" by Diggory Hadoke but I am unable to find info in regards to that action type. I know blackpowder express calibers was made on this action too.

Just wandering...

J.

I own a double rifle caliber 577 Nitro Express built by Webley & Scott in 1909, which already has such a PHV-1 action. The rifle is, as expected for this time, regulated for Cordite.

"Webley & Scott’s first major variant of the boxlock was Webley’s so-called “screw-grip” action. The screw-grip dates from 1882 and the patent was registered in the name of Messrs Thomas Webley and Thomas Brain. The screw-grip is an intricate piece of equipment, and it was described as follows in the 1914 Webley & Scott catalogue"
