Depressing to see the elephant.

Good anti material.

A hunter owes it to the animals he hunts to use an adequate firearm and know how to shoot it well and where to place the bullet.

Depressing to see the elephant on this video.

There are excellent books and DVDs that teach a budding elephant hunter how and where to shoot an elephant. Such as Buzz Charltons Elephant hunting DVD. I used it myself to learn how to shoot an elephant. Excellent training material. NE still had some for sale.

Well worth buying.

DVD "Hunting the African Elephant - The Complete Guide"
by Charlton McCallum Safaris (NTSC)

"Hunting the African Elephant - the Complete Guide" sums it up. This DVD IS the complete guide for any budding elephant hunter, dreamer of elephant hunting, or enthusiast wanting to view a very entertaining safari video. See thirty elephants hunted, with at least one charge.

Buzz Charlton, the host of the DVD is a Zimbabwean Professional Hunter specialising in elephant hunting. He leads the viewer through an educational process illustrated with close-up action on bull and tuskless cow elephants.

Three living legends of elephant hunting are interviewed: Sten Cedergren; Ian Nyschens (who provides the foreword as well); and Richard Harland.

Covered in the DVD:
* Preparation before the hunt;
* Shot placement on elephants;
* Brain shots vs Body shots;
* Recommended calibres;
* Double rifles versus the bolt action;
* Maturity of elephants;
* Assessing ivory formula;
* When and why back-up by your PH is required or may be required;
* Elephant body language.

Some of our members at NitroExpress.com are in the thick of it during this film. "500grains" stands down a charge and another bull in high grass, and is featured on the DVD graphic itself. "Will" hunts down his elephant, and "AspenHill" the lady elephant hunter shows how to precisely and coolly place a frontal brain shot with her .375. Many of the hunters use double rifles providing an enjoyable plus for this forum's members.

Definitely a DVD to add to every African hunting film collection.

Note:
* NTSC format (North American) - this is NOT an Australian PAL version - it will however play on most newer DVD players
* Worldwide zoning
* Approx 130 minutes

US$39.90 plus postage. Contact us to purchase, private message or post a query.

There should actually be a lively discussion between the advocate of the use of big bore rifles for hunting elephants and the smaller bore faction, as well as between the supporters of the brain shot or the heart/lung shot.

Little is happening again.

John,

I agree that is very poor shooting by the hunter.

I also think extremely poor practice by the PH. Once the client hunter seriously wounds an animal, I would expect the PH to insure the animal doesn't suffer because his incompetent paying client cannot finish the animal quickly. It is just the right thing to do.

Mpofu pointed out the PH may have shot first. The black bloke at the beginning.

Or maybe this is a PH apprentice test in Zimbabwe? Where the Appy needs to hunt an elephant as part of the testing process? If so, one would hope the supervising PH could shoot better than that. Than either of these guys.

I don't think it is a PH test. At one point one could hear that ridiculous loud cheering one often years on some client videos.

Whoever it is. Why on earth didn't they put two bullets into the heart region seeing they can't find the brain.

Or get a bit closer.

I wonder what cartridge(s) was being used?

All in all, not a good look.

A very repugnant video. Why on earth did they release that anywhere.

Agreed the shooter should have gone a second shot into the heart area way quicker and if the hunter could not then the PH should of finished the El.

Yes these are my views but I believe them to be ones that should be honoured by all who hunt.

Above all, use enough gun, but there are very divided opinions on the subject.

Getting closer to the elephant to do the final shot might have been a good idea too.
