Quite impressive especially since all the bits and pieces are still with it.

Museum piece. The Howdahs pistol as as muzzle loader made a lot of sense. Two ready shots at close range. Takes too much time to muzzle load a single barrel with a tiger on your back.

What caliber/bore?

No, it's a breach loader. Note the underlever and also the cartridges in the top section of the fitted case.

There was a cased pair of Alexander Henry howdah pistols for auction on Gunbroker earlier this year, but unfortunately it is no longer visible. Matching Jones-underlever actions with a high amount of engraving. I didn't bid because I'd just drained the gun fund plus the case colors looked to have been redone a bit harshly, but then the pictures weren't that great. I believe they sold for around US$ 6500. Apologies for not saving the auction pictures - I usually do that for interesting pieces like this.

Thank for posting the beautiful howdah up above.

Chris

The cartridges completely missed my eye.

I wondered if the hook was just a finger hook. I looked for a hinge.

There is a breech line unlike a muzzleloader.

I don't know what all the tools do but wondered if some were muzzle loading tools. I'm guessing they are brass case reloading tools, bullet mould, powder measure etc.

But it looked like a breech loader because it is.

A cased pair for that price! Something wrong with them I think.

I thought the brass cases looked smaller.

What is the tool immediately below the hinge pin of the action and exactly how is it used. It appears to reseat the primer at one end but what does the other end do? It would be good for someone who has actually used such a tool to explain.
