Getting my two .577 BPE doubles
      #376951 - 25/05/23 02:19 PM

Getting my two .577 BPE double rifles soon. 1 by Friday and the other hopefully by June. I have brass but still need to find .585 cast bullets and dies. Anyone know where I can look?

Here are an option for bullets: https://www.buffaloarms.com/577-450-grain-hollow-base-ca-577450hb.html

While light, should be fun to shoot.

Two greedy! You'll need a reloader, gun carrier when the .577 action is hot.

I want to see what they look like as well.

Very nice. Especially the second.

Why two at once? Opportunity? Bargain? Collection types? A spare to find out which one shoots better? Two is better than one? Just interested.

Nice.

I collect bpe double rifles along with MS rifles. I bought the Gustav in South Africa 9 months ago. It's been inspected by their historic society and passed but the paperwork is just coming through now. The Wilkinson was an opportunity.

Good O. Thanks.

So historical South African firearms might get embargoed?

No Seems that each has to be checked for historical significance. I guess if it belongs to someone important they don't let it leave the country.

Is it difficult to import bpe rifles into the US? I have never tried but have been concerned about getting tied up in red tape.
I ordered an oak gun case from England only to have it conficated because it had "gun" in the description. It was an empty oak box!!

I used to be a FFL/Importer and did it all the time. Still do it quite often using another Importer.

Lovely rifles there Casper - both are very nice indeed!
You must have been pissed off 85lc getting your 'gun case' confiscated, next time try for an ornament display box - if your game to do so & can get it labelled as such from England!

casper,
Just based upon my "vintage" and also "antique" .577's I'd wait to get the rifles in hand and slug the bores. Seemingly a lot of the 1880's to 1900 BP and NfB .577's run closer to .590' up to .595" in the grooves. That early Wilkinson & Son could surprise you, I have an 1873 vintage Steven Grant double that is .602" in the grooves.
Of course if you use Black Powder the (possibly) smaller .585" bullets will bump up to work OK if not too hard an alloy.
…..Buffalo Arms does show a set of ch4D .577 dies in stock.

RB,
This was possibly via Ebay? Last year I scored a vintage tin of Rangoon Oil (empty of course) and it was intercepted by eBay/British Post and destroyed because the advert mentioned the words "gun oil".
eBay/PayPal cannot abide an international shipment of ANYTHING with the word "gun" involved.
I got my money back, the vendor unfortunately got stuffed.

Mike,

It was thru eBay and the idiots at eBay/British Post reacted to the word Gun" as in gun case. Either eBay or the seller refunded my money but I was not a happy camper.

Not sure why eBay/British Post is so incompetent. Must have hired a group of morons.

…..it's not rational, it's policy.

I'm told that "if" you contact the seller and arrange payment thru other than eBay/PayPal that there is no issue. Go figure.
eBay & PayPal are NOT the legal & honest firearms enthusiasts friend.

I've been banned from using PayPal because I bought something gun related or reloading accessories (they won't say) which violates their terms of use.
This, even though EBay owns PayPal and in the "Gun Parts" and "Reloading Press & Equipment" categories they offer PayPal as a form of payment on just about everything!
Screw them.
Haven't used PayPal for about four years now.

2 3/4" I have just ordered two 45-70 18" long inserts from MCA. Almost next door. We'll see what it does once they arrive. He's got a backlog of 8-12 weeks. http://mcaceak.com/shotgun-inserts.html
