Help date this Browning
      #37583 - 16/09/05 06:35 AM

Everyone,

Picked up an old Browning Auto-5 in 16 guage today. It is not a "Sweet Sixteen" just a "standard" model. I'm usually pretty good at dating old Brownings but this one has me puzzeled. Serial number begins with an X - (X308**) I've never seen that before. Anyone have a clue?

Thanks for your help.

-Vlad

The X prefix was used for all A5 16's from 1947-1953, according to the Blue Book serialization list. Yours is 1949.

You can find a free pdf of this list on the Blue Book website. Look for the Firearms Serialization link on their Firearms home page.

1953-on the standard and Sweet [lightweight] 16's had different serial number prefixes.
