Woke up to some good news.
      #374485 - 26/02/23 03:17 AM

Checked my email this morning first thing and received one that confirmed that I won a 1956 .458win mag Mannlicher Schoenauer Mod MC. I never thought that I'd find one due to their rarity. I almost got up and did a
little happy dance. And I was very happy with the price.

.458win mag Mannl Schoenauer Mod "MC" Rifle. These 1950's rifles are regarded as the peak of Steyr/Mannlicher achievements as they were still constructed of steel & wood with a five round
rotary magazine, barrel of 26" carrying open sights and a straight spoon
shaped bolt handle which served as a 3rd safety lug. Walnut half stock with
dark fore-end tip & grip caps, chequered grip & wrist, shadow-line
cheekpiece and a ventilated recoil pad. Receiver displays some light carrying
wear to the finish and some light carry scratches to stock, very good bore,
good overall condition.

Looking good. Nice piece of wood, too. I'm happy for you.
Is it all stock, Casper or is the recoil pad a replacement?
It looks like a standard Pachmyer pad from the 70's.

I thought the same thing Daryl online photos show both this type pad and just a buttplate so am unsure.

casper50, congratulations! Those whiteline recoil pads were stndard on the "Magnum" Mannlicher-Schoenauers. Quite often, they are perished and useless by now. I would replace it with a solid red one and carefully refinish the stock. The black foreend tips were plastic first, but most often simply painted on. There ought to be the year of proof marked besides the NPv proofmarks.

I think you can counting the MS made in 458 Mag on your fingers, maybe on your toes also but than having them all.

Well done indeed mate - I didn't think they were THAT rare!
We will just have to be patient & wait for the range report & loading data!
A true 5 shot heavy as well

I've read online, (and we all know how accurate everything online is,) that less than 500 were made. Others say even less. The Mannlicher Schoenauer Collector's club says that the number isn't known due to no records. If you do a search on MS 458 for sale some pop up but most are years old.

I sure liked the 6.5x68 ctg. but not the ridiculous 12" rate of twist.
