Yes, a Spanish Mauser in 7x57.
A very good video- touching on the development of the controlled round feed and the reason why.

yep, the spanish mauser was the gun I never got.
30 years ago when had my gun licence in my hands was thinking I would need a mauser rifle in 308 winchester too because of using 7,62 nato ammo. this were the good old days when you could buy all kind of surplus ammo. Frankonia in germany was offer than mauser rifles the spanish had rebarrel in the 1950/60s for their version of the 7,62 nato cartridge to arm the guardia civil or second line troops. iirc, the long rifle was also shorten to carbine length. the rifles were cheap so what I could afford then and make an order over a local dealer but the rifle was never delivered. the dealer was allways telling my storys that the rifle will come next week but it dont come and some times later when the cooler FR 8 in 7,62 Nato arrive I was taking this from another dealer.

Back in the 70's, I bought a 98 Mauser Gewehr(I think). in .30/06.
Indeed, it had the military stepped barrel, but a .308 groove diameter barrel & chambered '06.
I gave that rifle to my bro and he used it on the Queen Charlotte Islands(now Haida Gwaii) with 150gr.
Dominion/Imperial ammo for deer & it shot very well. The barrel looked brand new inside. Don't know who built it,
but it had the laminated mil. spec stock as well as military sights.
Strange "pieces" of history.
