Which is better? And why?

More than two decades after the development of their last cartridge, London gunmaker John Rigby & Co. is set to release a new calibre, the .416 Rigby No. 2, which will be chambered in Rigby’s Rising Bite double rifles.
Dr. Eckhard Stief, a passionate German hunter, rifle collector and avid fan of rifles, is the genius behind the design of this new and improved .416 Rigby No. 2 cartridge. Working hand-in-hand with Rigby, he has seen through the development of the new calibre from concept.
As a keen cartridge developer, Dr. Stief has previously improved calibres for medium and small-sized game but four years ago decided that he would like to work on one last project – to develop an improved, more modern calibre for big game, so struck up the alliance with Rigby to see through the project.
A fan of the .416 Rigby, Dr. Stief maintains that John Rigby who developed the original cartridge in 1911 was ahead of his time when he produced the calibre, adding that it can be compared to new modern age cartridges.
Using the .416 Rigby’s original design, Dr. Stief has simply added a rim to the cartridge, to improve the extraction in double rifles, maintaining the same cartridge pressures and velocities.
Dr. Stief commented: “I selected the .416 Rigby for development because it’s powerful for shooting big game and penetrates well but it can also be used on medium-sized game like kudu and oryx, making it a good all-rounder. For me the modern shape of the case and good shoulder is important, plus the neck is not so long like many older calibres and there is lots of bullets readily available. By not changing the mother cartridge, reloaders can use their normal reloading full die set, simply needing a new case holder and original published reloading data can be used, so long as their rifle is chambered for the calibre. I have simply selected today’s best calibre from the big game calibre group and added a rim, aiding cartridge extraction.”
Marc Newton, the managing director of Rigby, added: “We are delighted to work with Dr. Stief, to develop a new Rigby calibre for our Rising Bite rifles. By adding a rim to the original .416 Rigby it modernises the cartridge and brings it into 21st century.”

NE is the ONLY site I found ballistics comment on for the Now  
As expected, similar to the rimless case as it is said to have the same dimensions.
A 400 gr projectile atba muzzle velocity of 2,350 to 2,400 fps.

The .500/416 NE also achieves the same standard muzzle velocity of 2,400 fps or there about. With a 400 gr projectile.

I really don't have a lot to contribute to this as I have no experience with most of these.. I will say, this caliber seems to me like it would be a dragon slayer.. perfect for everything that walks the planet... My only 416 experiences are with the .416 Rem. which I have 3 rifles chambered in .. See absolutely no need for anything else based on my experiences of using it on numerous hunts in Africa..

Remember this is the double rifle forum. Thediscussion is about double rifles, single shots etc.
Performance of cartridges whether a double or bolt action is relevant of course.

That was the original design criteria for the 500/416, which was to duplicate the 416 Rigby but with a rim for doubles, as well as a noticeable bottleneck to make it easy to drop into the chambers without having to look during reloading. I believe Krieghoff designed it in conjunction with Wolfgang Romey.

Looks like I am outgunned with my .405 DR shooting .411 300 grain bullets at 2250 and 400 grainers at 2100+.
So far, it has killed everything I wanted to shoot and if it runs out of gas, I will just take it older cousin chambered in .45-90.

I mentioned the .450/400 say the 3" or 3 1/4" no matter. 400 be at say 2,150 fps.
Still a killer. A little slower than the .500/416 and .416R.

I included the .416 Rigby as it is sometimes chambered where rimless cases are considered better. Maybe this will change in the future.
I didn't include the .416 Remington as this isn't usually chambered except in bolt actions.

I own a Krieghoff in 500-416,I shoot two loads ,the standard 410 0r a 400 at factory velocities,2350 fps,went to a 400 because wanted to use a NF 400 solid on my last hunt for buff,& secondly I load a 300 gr tsx about 2300 fps for smaller game,this gun & caliber is kinda boring:) it's accurate & really kills well with both the factory & my light load,what's to improve except the name maybe?

It’s at the back of my mind that an Indian potentate had a custom double built in .416 Rimmed, back in the day. Memory has it that it was mentioned in an article on the Rigby round, citing an article titled “The Rifle that Rupees Built”
I have a rat-chewed collection of magazines going back to the early 80s, and it could be anywhere amongst them.
