They are rather lovely, but what I never understand is why doesn't the fore-end wood flow from the main stock. If I was building, or having such a rifle built I would choose a full rifle blank and lay it out like you do with a bolt action, and then cut out the section for the action. You also see this on many shotguns where the fore-end wood does n't match the stock. It's a small aesthetic thing but......
As to the £40,000 price point - how many man hours are in there?. In the UK minimum living wage is now £10 per hour and £50k annual salary is really not very much, and plenty of craftsmen will make substantially more than that in other trade. Fine guns have always been expensive.

Were I to contract for one I would opt for a less ostentatious engraving and wood. I’m a vintage hunting/shooting rifle type rather than a pure collectors investment sort.. ie: more of a “Best” as found in the 1880’s to 1910 heyday.
That said, this Rigby is a testament to the ability of present day “back in London” Rigby….simply stunning. - Mike

The action is made by Mayfair Engineering. Not sure on the barrels.

The actions were not made by Mayfair engineering. I had them machined here in Scotland then I assembled them. The barrels were made up with a solid quarter rib then I screwcut and chambered them, attached them to the actions and off they went to the London proof house. I would ask people out there that before you comment on who made what in the British gun trade please make sure you have your facts straight.

Ok calm down, I didn't see your other post where you outlined in detail where and how they were made. Sorry if I offended you for repeating the same mistake, it wasn't intentional. I have been following Mayfair Engineering on Instagram and they have had many pics of the progress of their single shot action including regularly combining the term 416 Rigby No.2 with the pics. I therefore assumed (Obviously incorrectly) that they were making it. Thanks for pointing it out again.
By the way, do you know who is making the brass for Rigby in 416 Rigby No.2.

The Mayfair action is a sort of copy of a George Gibbs action with a side safety on it. It also has been simplified in doing away with the retracting striker and the shape of the original lever catch. I think the retracting striker is quite an important feature as it means if anything goes wrong with the primer the striker will never get stuck in it jamming the action. The original Gibbs actions are beautifully made but the PD actions are more robust in my opinion. They were made in calibers up to 600 and were used by several well known makers of the time so really are a well proven design. I'm not sure who makes the brass but can find out. The cases I've used have been pretty good. The brass is a good thickness and they're consistent on the dimensions.

Thanks Pug, the side safety should have been a dead give away for me as it features prominently in most of the Mayfair pics. I am normally a stickler for correct information but let the fact the Mayfair and Ian Clarke make so many components for the British trade get the better of my judgement.
Thanks for the information on both the new versions being made, very interesting. Does the company who made these actions for Rigby make gun parts for other companies as well or was it a first time venture for a local Engineering Company. If so they certainly did a great job.
If you could find out about the brass that would be appreciated, it would be interesting to see who it is. Hopefully the cartridge can make a bit of an impression on the public and get a reasonable following. Certainly a beauty.
