Big game hunting in Australia
      #365596 - 19/05/22 12:43 AM

I'm a gun writer who is writing articles about hunting all over the world. My latest missive is about hunting big game in Australia. Who here has hunted there, and can you give me info on what animals and where. The only hunting I've done in Australia was done on Surfer's Paradise beach!

Hey Pop:
I've tossed a few Australian hunting stories up on the web over the years.
Check here.

Plenty more recent yarns to add too, must get onto that.
I've been slack!

Some ideas of your theme might be useful?

Like what are the species available in Australia?
The most sought after species?
Obviously some talk about water buffalo. Banteng. Scrub bull. Boar.

The deer species.
Small game.

One thing I always get asked is, can I hunt a kangaroo? I say, yes, no photos, and we buy you a skin as a trophy from a shop! But I believe some states, Queensland?, allows several permits to be bought? Roos can be shot legally in SA under destruction permits, but can't be legally removed from the property. Others are professionally meat harvested. No real sporting hunting, though millions are shot illegally. They easily outnumber sheep and cattle on properties. Species of smaller wallabies, euros or wallaroos and three species of kangaroos.

Climates in the Australian continent. Several variations.

Safety. Western country. Safer than the USA but our snakes are more serious.

Bringing firearms and ammo into Australia. Different state laws. No semi auto rifles. No semi auto or pump action shotguns. No legal handgun hunting to my knowledge.

You are going to have to prompt what you need.

If I write the article for you or contribute heavily, I want Forums.NitroExpress.com mentioned!

Wallabies in Tasmania are a major game species too.

I am also an outdoor writer. Have been at it since 1976 when I had my first article published in a Canadian hunting magazine. Since then I have written hundreds of articles in Canadian, US and European magazines on either firearms or big game hunting, and a few on angling.

Have been wanting to go for a hunt in the Northern Territory for many years, but have never managed to get there. One of these days I hope.

In the mean time I like to read stories about the hunting Australia has to offer.

Just checked. Poprivit isn't ONE of the gunwriters I mentioned elsewhere recently!

No, Poprivit is an old scrounge living in Henderson, NV (LV area), who has written numerous books and many, many articles on adventure living, hunting, flying - all the boy's toys.
John, I'll contact you about my Australian article. I just finished on about hunting in Slovenia.

Be interested in reading the article on Slovenia. I have never hunted there but am taking the time finally to do a bit of hunting in Europe. Hunted in Hungary last trip over to the EU. Was a great experience. Next trip will be July of 2023 to the Czech.

Ha ha. I reckon I have seen your name on articles in the past. Hopefully we were kind!

I'm internet friends with Peter Ryan of NZ. And Philip Massaro who has similar interests to many NEers. The .318 WR and .404 included. I think writers needing to write X articles per year struggle sometimes. "10 reasons why an article is ...".

Slovenia sounds like a interesting place for hunting. 93mouse a regular posters here in the past was from Slovenia.

Would be great to see your article.

PS I have written a handfull of articles myself for a yearbook in the past. One younger guy and gunmaker here once said my articles inspired him. Wow! I thought. I washed has hunted even Greenland. That impresses me!
