Agree--looked fake to me..or it was a canned lion released..

I have never seen a wild lion act like that..not saying it can't happen..but hasn't for me..

BUT, looking at the belly's of some of those guys, they weren't going to walk too far.. at least not too far from the dinner table...

I found it embarrassing to watch. If I wasn't a hunter nor knowledgeable I might be turned off hunting completely.

They make a show of the location being right on the border with Botswana and the Kalahari. Careful editing, my guess, to keep any fence out of the footage. Evidently these are those magical lions travelling South over the border that jump into the high fenced lion hunting area.

As one can see, these very active and agile flighty lions are exactly the sort to jump lion fencing! Not!

The wonderfully maned pen raised male lion just sat under the bush. Didn't flee at all. While the supporting horde of people circled it for an easier than easy shot for the fat puffing stumbling client who probably had trouble walking to the dinner table, as was suggested. The crowd stamping, stomping, talking, radio barking, the lion stays put. In broad daylight. "Who are all these strange people? Is it feeding time?"

I'd be embarrassed to be filmed in this so called hunt. The staff, PHs, tracker, look embarrassed.

They should be embarrassed for such disgraceful canned tame animal hunts.

Is this the guy who could not even work his bolt to eject the brass? The PH had to pick out the case for the fat man.

Shame shame shame.

The only plus is maybe captive breeding may help ensure survival of the lion species.

The young bloke's Lioness. Alerted by the stampede of idiots steam rolling through the bush, ran and climbed a tree!? Instead of running away? Maybe there is a fence corner not far behind? Or it is used to climbing trees for exercise in its little pen to escape the reach of other lions?

Lions will climb trees of course. I would think this lioness wouldn't be seen again if actually wild. Very inexperienced. Very sad ...

As for the hunting. Driving the roads looking for tracks. No baiting. They knew they had one male lion and two lionesses. As they were probably released only days before.

I would be so disappointed if I was a client for this sort of "hunt". A noble wild ferocious beast, a dangerous game hunt should be that. Not some poor beast cowering under a thin bush or hiding on a tree branch away from the ground. Braggy trophy collectors couldn't care less.

Sad sad sad.

I'd like to find a video of a good real wild lion hunt? Maybe from Tanzania? Might have to buy a DVD!

With the usual benefit of hindsight I am really disappointed I did not take up the Zambian residents lion hunt back in 1989. For a dirt cheap price. Lion, buffalo, hippo, maybe sable? plus other game. Dirt cheap? But I was in between jobs. Had to return to London. Get a job. Save some sterling. "Convince" the girlfriend of spending a month or two of budget European holiday spending cash equivalent. And fly back to Lusaka. Added to this possibly not being able to take the trophies out afterwards ... Having several safaris since, I would do it tomorrow now. For a first safari one wants the momentous.

Damn a truly wild lion hunt for a handfull of thousand dollars, R14,000 at the time. Sickening. Sad sad sad.

Hell I am unfit, unhealthy at the moment with some medical issues, can't walk on a safari as I used to for 30 KMs or more in 40 deg plus heat, old pathetic sad but I wouldn't post it loud and clear all over the internet in a video. Of course the guys selling these canned hunts made the video but the canned trophy hunters obviously agreed to it. All dressed in "That's Canned Africa Safaris" branded clothing.

I hunted for one morning on a large canned plains game fenced place. Canned in that due to the drought they were feeding cattle pellets to the wild game off the back of trucks/baccies. I saw piles of empty pellet sacks. The PH saw me looking so decided to inform me and give me a choice. I decided to head back to the empty hills for real hunting. I had shot one zebra on the place. The game simply did not run away when seeing if hearing a vehicle. Dinner time!

Another client in camp raved about how great his day was the day before. Shot so many animals ... Now I knew how.

Ha ha I was polite and never said anything to him.

Really sad to hunt game where it is intensively captive bred. And not wild. Sometimes wild game is less wary because it hasn't been hard hunted yet. That's normal. Conversely sometimes wild game is less stressed than high fenced hunting blocks. The bred animals bought from breeding pens is released at the beginning of the season. Harassed all season. When I am there at the end of the season the surviving game has wilded up and far less relaxed than intended true wild animals.

It's chalk and cheese the difference between a true wild game broad hunting concession and a 2000 acre high fenced paddock. Andvenjoyment. Imo.

Canned, if you consider having to hunt within the borders of the Province as being "penned".

We guided a fellow for moose who had hunted Africa a few times & he was distressed by the 3rd day as he hadn't seen any yet.
"In Africa I've have seen hundreds of antelope by now".
Michael, the guide and outfitter merely said "it's called hunting, not shooting".
