DAN did it
      #36390 - 24/08/05 06:00 AM

Our friend Dan Hunsaker

not a member of this forum but of African Hunter Forum, did it.
African hunter forum : arrow for cape buff

He was in Africa to complete his bowhunting big five.
This mythic hunter (read African Hunter magazine) has already shot with his bow (mostly Mathews)
an elephant, a rhino, a buffalo, a leopard

but NO LION.

This month he was due to shoot a lion with a bow but as long as Africa and African politicians are concerned, there was then no lion available when he landed in Africa.
This guy being a resourceful genius went to Australia
and there shot a charging water buffalo . No small success, he arrowed the buff in the chest, the arrow pierced the buff lenghwise

I REPEAT, THE ARROW PIERCED THE BUFF LENGHWISE, THRU & THRU.
AND HE HAS a VIDEO FILM TO PROVE IT.

When the hunting vice is guiding You, You can make miracles.

Wow! Taking those animals with a bow is no small feat. He is the real deal. HUnting with a bow is challenging enough let alone hunting things that can stomp you.

I'd love to see a picture with that water bufalo if you can find one to post. Thats a LOT of penetration! And taking something as big as an elepahant is truly amazing. I met Chuck Adams a few years back & takked with him about his run down with an elephant. As experienced an archer as he is he said that taking elephant with a bow was almost impossible. But I know it has been done. Fred Bear did it with a recurve years ago. ut the thought of teh shot going bad makes me week in the knees

Taking such beasts with the bow would not be easy, considering how easy things can turn on you.

Make for some intersting campfire stories.

Kudos to your mate.

I am just back from holidays and I have no news from Dan.
I PM him again, sure pics and the account will be something really great..
Speaking of Fred Bear succeeding with a recurve seems more feasible than with a compound. In fact it's not easy to pick a powerful compound. On the other hand it's a cinch finding a powerful (over 100pds) recurve.
Anyhow here I am out of my depth.
Count on me to post news from Dan.
I cannot understand why such a capable guy could act so discreetly. Absolutely not a bragger.

What a trophy to take with a bow. What weight arrow did he use and what broadhead? How far did the animal go before expiring? I cannot wait for the full report. Well done DAN!!!! it is a beauty

That is one hell of a trophy and even more so with a bow.

Well done.

I don't think I would like to get that close without
a serious gun in my hand.

Congratulations.

Jaco

african hunter mag

Dan recommands quote : "Game Tracker Carbon Express Terminator Camo 6075, 12gr per inch, 125gr Zwickey, and inserted with clear fuel line tubing (improvise). The package came in at 850gr., 93# energy."
Seems he is indulging himself with kind of turbo nocks.

What do You think of this Dan ? me think he has lassoed a whooping boar and it results that the w boar seems really angry. Am I right?

I hope Dan will quit from fearing to be believed a braggard
and that he will provide a colorful report.

As he is using Fob for 3 years this his part of what He got in 3 years or less

I am praying Dear God :Please Dan don't send me a pic of You and Your wife Judy, I fear it would be because You shot her too.

I envy Dan, the Kudu is an excellent throphy, you don't see specimens like that everyday. Hunting so much must be an fantastic life.
Can't I carry his bow for him?

Yes Jaco

I am no RSA game specialist but this splendid Kudu seems to have 3 turns?

Not a chance on more than thousand to meet (and shoot) such a beauty, Isn't it?

JB
In all my hunting years I have never came across a Kudu like that, I am still praying for that day, and hopefully I will not get
"bok koors" shivers when I get a shot at such a magnificent animal.

A nice heavy bull.

It takes some guts to hunt up that close to these big bovines with just a bow.

Some magnicient other trophies too.
