Kodiak sea duck hunt
      #358079 - 12/11/21 10:25 PM

My brother and I just returned from a sea duck hunt on Kodiak. Bagged some ducks that are hard to get anywhere else. Weather was windy and cold but we only got stuck in the tent for one morning due to rain. We were lucky and only saw 1 brown bear. Lots of hunters have complained of bear harassment this year. Deer population is low and the bears are hungry. One group had to shoot a bear that would not leave their camp alone for two days. There was a lot of deer hunters about. Our duck hunting was disturbed 2 or 3 times a day from hunt charter boats traveling and dropping off hunters nearby. Still had a successful hunt. https://youtu.be/CwYUgAPMtNc

Good "hunt" casper50. Are those ducks divers/fish eaters?
That white speculum brown hen-bird looked kinda like a Gadwall.
We have them here and they are better eating than the local Mallards.

It was a Gadwall hen. We had puddle ducks passing by every so often. The Harlequins I don't know what they eat but they tasted as good as the teal, and Scoters eat mostly mussels I believe. Haven't tried them as of yet.

Ahh - yeah - the Gadwall here are really sweet. I've never eaten Harlequin or Scoters or any salt water ducks.
The Gadwall are about 98% or higher, insectivorous & vegetarian, whereas Mallards, 96% veggies.
The mallards around here get into washed up spawned out salmon - retch!
When they are in the grain fields they're good, but once they get into the salmon on the Fraser river - yikes.
I still prefer Gadwall over any Mallard.

Thanks for sharing your hunt!
Looks like a good time and some great scenery.
