Tough Country
      #355839 - 08/08/21 05:57 PM

Heres a few from the hard country today and yesterday. May as well have thrown everything I know about hunting pigs away
Nothing in all the usual spots and carcasses nothing. Plenty of fresh sign on the carcasses and heavy trails leading away. Decided to follow the tracks. Easy to follow, lots of fresh tracks and crap all the way along the trail. 3.5km's and in a good area we could smell them, then Mitch bumped a mob bedded in the sand palms. Bit of fast shooting had two on the ground, a boar for Mitch and a sow for me.
Hunted the high creeks and Mitch got another two.
Back in the morning and Mitch got a boar I clean missed in the burnt country. Pics then onto the hard country. Didn't disappoint and ended with three more sows. These were in some of the toughest country Ive taken pigs from.
Heres a few pics cheers Mick

Hi Mick, you've had a haricut.

A question. why is it harder country to your normal haunts? It looks in the photos quite lush with growth and normal looking? Or do you refer to hardest hunting, ie difficulty in coming onto the pigs? Thanks.

We hunted, pushed grass in the good ground and burnt areas for very little sign even. Got lucky with the boar in the morning.
The carcasses were in some of the better country and the pigs were travelling a fair way into some of the crappiest country for shelter .
The country is stoney tight creeks with very little water/mud, lots of rocky hills. Not burnt so lots of cover for security and ATV's struggle to get a round in it so less pressure.
This will all change as it gets hotter, and water disappears.
Not complaining enjoyed the ones we Got and found some new areas. I previously wouldn't have looked at.
Cheers Mick

Not wrong about tough country Mick!
Rubbly ground like that is hard walking & one slip can spell disaster for a rifle (& an ankle too) Certainly weren't in great nick, but at least you got a few mate - well done all round.
